Hello. I'm a lease driver that was leased onto a company from may-sept. I'm was running there plates. I switched carriers and ran roadrunner plates from oct-dec. I'm switching to another carrier and are trying to run there plates but they said i need a copy of my 2290 or else i can't use there plates. I emailed my last copy that paid it and they said:
Your 2290 was filed under our EIN, not your EIN as it was not provided to us by Payroll prior to August 2016. We cannot provide you with a copy of the 2290 as it is not under your name.
What do i do? My current company is telling me i need to repay all that money again to have it put in my name. The company that paid it for me charged me about $600 to pay it out of my check.

Pay the pro-rated amount of $550 for a new 2290 with YOUR EIN on it and deal with trying to collect from the other folks later. There are a lot online services you can utilize to file and receive a stamped copy from the IRS right online. I paid an online company like $8.00 to go through their portal.

Word to the wise, make sure if you're leasing onto to someone else' authority and you pay the 2290 to them via settlements, make sure you get a copy of the 2290 to verify whose name and EIN is on it.

I agree, make sure you get your own EIN. It is always better to file under your own EIN if you are a leased driver. It makes it so that you can switch between leasing companies easier, if need be
