WTH man why is a 24 year old kid driving kids around!? Whoever hired him has some explaining to do!! I am 99% sure I have never seen a bus driver under 55 years old!

I'm not even 24 but I'm pretty sure this bus didn't crash solely because of the drivers age.Mike2633, Dye Guardian, Big Don and 1 other person Thank this. -
I hear ya man they have to hire people....but I think 24 is young to be hauling the only real valuable freight on all of earth.
I can't think of one person throughout my life (45 now) that was responsible enough at 24 to be driving a bus full of super high value trillion dollar cargo around.BoostedTeg, Blackshack46, lilillill and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm all for better school bus design but not seat belts. Could you imagine trying to unbuckle kids from seats in the event of a fire or water rescue, that's a lot of seats. I'm not apposed to his age, that's an argument that can be for our industry as well. It goes back to training, professionalism, and lack of a good pool of people to hire from. An unfortunate reality of many industries these days.

Locally, the compensation offered in exchange for driving a school bus in very low. The contractors are constantly recruiting for drivers, and even the local media will run a story from time to time highlighting the shortage of school bus drivers. However, it's hard to imagine that they will attract the most qualified and experienced drivers with the compensation offered. (Law enforcement officers and school teachers are also underpaid for the jobs they do, but perhaps people are attracted to those roles for reasons beyond the money.) Maybe for older, semi-retired individuals, driving a school bus may be a good fit.
In the aftermath of this crash, the second in recent days here in TN, our governor has stated that it may be time to review the safety aspects of school transportation. It will be interesting to see whether anything meaningful comes of it.Big Don Thanks this. -
Makes me feel better about my kids school.
The local school to me has 3 school buses. We are really small with a total of 450 kids from pre k through 12. But all our drivers are former truckers, one drive for landstar for about 12 years with his truck. Retired back in 2010. Now he drives a bus for school, events, field trips, and also has of maintenance at the school. He's also one of only 3 individuals that are authorized to carry a concealed handgun while on property. he makes $19 an hour -
I have a Sister and Cousin in their Late 30"s that drive buses. The issue was he was going too fast.... Bus drivers are not paid well especially with what they have to deal with.... I feel for the kids and the parents.
Big Don, Toomanybikes and G13Tomcat Thank this.
