why are you trying to drop to 6 volts? and where does 24 volts come into the question?

    you need a transformer.

I am wanting charge a 6 volt battery with my 12volt system , the converters ive found are 24v in and 12v out can't find a 12in 6 out so that's why I want to know if putting 12 in a 24 v unit will still cut the voltage in half .

No it won't cut it in half.

Do you have an inverter. If you do I would buy this maintainer charger for 12V or 6V. It uses less than 200 watts at 1.5 amps.

I use it to maintain my boat and riding mower batteries in the winter. It works great. It's real small too.

This one is even smaller for 6V... uses about 120 watts

Remember charging requires ventilation. I wouldn't be doing it inside the truck.
