Most of the big companies these days will take you with a DWI/DUI or even a non-violent/drug related FELONY over 7 years old, you can't haul hazmat loads ever though. But... don't admit to smoking a joint EVER in your life. That's the death penalty in trucking. Nixon lives.

I have a misdemeanor record from many years ago. Stupid stuff, but plenty of them. I have both TWIC and hazmat. I passed thru my job interviews no problem. Just be honest and explain how you were a younger and stupider person. And mean it.
Need4Speed and Maj. Jackhole Thank this. -
You can get a TWIC and Hazmat with a misdemeanor but not a felony.
CK73 Thanks this. -

I have drug trafficking. Got hired by Swift. Had a few tickets and a serious accident at Swift. Didn’t get fired. Left and was hired by the first company to which I applied. That amount of time, it may not even come up on a background check.
Need4Speed Thanks this. -
And also ANY pending charges. You will not get hazmat or TWIC if anything is pending.

Theft is the one thing this Industry cannot have either through a proven history of or a risk of someone actually taking it.
If I took one of McKessons trailers and handed it over to the druggies for 10K dollars on US 79 south on the other end of Memphis I would be hunted to the ends of the earth essentially. And I wont be able to touch another one ever again no matter if I served the prison sentance however many years.
Insurance agents are in control of who is hired or not. They get to decide. Soon they find out about your record... most of time they say "oo can't do that..." -
25 year old charge, dont worry about it. Something you did another lifetime ago doesnt define who you are today. I think you'll find that any decent company would not hold something you did 25 years ago against you. I know some drivers who have felonies that are less than 10 years old, one for distribution of a controlled substance and the other for felony theft of an automobile. Their driving for big companies.
