Ya I'm from Canada and we just dont do anything bigger than 244 also if your pulling a van or refer I dont see the point of a big wheelbase you want to keep the gap between the sleeper and front of the trailer to a minimum for fuel economy alot of wind gets caut in between there
260 inch wheelbase 53ft trailer.

So much misinformation.US has no overall length for a simple tractor and trailer on the interstate system. Some state routes will still have length requirements but nothing restricts you to 96 inches.I've run on US 15 for many years with a 290 WB tractor and 53ft 102 inch trailer.not4hire Thanks this.

Looks like that is about to change.
Manitoba scraps non-RTAC standard, harmonizing with western provinces - Truck Newsupnorthwpg Thanks this. -
How about Canadian provinces. I have heard if your more 244 wb you will need permit for western provinces. Thanks

I never stated anything about American Law other than restrictions on sections of say US 15 where you cannot have a 53 foot trailer or more than a 70 foot rig. Your wheelbase will matter in those kinds of places.
Ive also run US 15 all my life and am aware as you are restrictions on length etc. It's not really that important to the specific question of opinions on wheelbase of tractors.
Ive already explained my opinion on wheel base of tractors and am not going to repeat all that. Disinformation does not apply here either. So that's a wash. Appreciate you taking the time to write, but there isnt anything here to fix because I never really attempted to tackle restrictions. -
You can run a 7.2 m WB (Aprox 284 in)right across Canada now with a 53 ft trailer.I pull a 53 ft trailer with a 282 in WB and just slide my fifth wheel ahead about a ft to get under 23 meters. My previous truck was 260 and I was still under 23 meters. I think whoever told you that you would be too long with a 260 wb needs to sharpen their measuring skills.Onemanshow, Elroythekid and x1Heavy Thank this.

x1Heavy Thanks this.

You must be running a set forward front axle with the 5th wheel all the way to the front I still have a hard time believing your under 23 meters with a 53 ft trailer. I know Ontario did change the rules for wheelbase so you and run a 7.2 base now but I do believe you can't do it with a 53 trailer as far as Manatoba goes it was still 244 6.2 meter unless something has recently changedx1Heavy Thanks this.

Since September 2016 (or thereabouts; the actual rule may not have passed until a few months later).
A more recent change (February 15, 2019); MB is scrapping non-RTAC and required permits for long wheelbase tractors and is harmonizing with the rest of the west.
