If this is your first time with a Amp...I would go with a Texas Star 350...It will reach out and touch someone, and very forgiving if you screw-up.

you still need to have that radio properly tuned to make the amp do its full potential.

Just remember the amp is 200W according to the transistor type regardless of marketing fluff to the contrary it won't do more and stay clean unless the power supply voltage is higher.

If you will use the radio 'stock' and not butchered up diode clipped etc., set the carrier with the amp on to 50W so the 200W peaks will try to stay clean. It will help prevent splattering and harmonics that your intended listeners won't hear but those on other channels will be annoyed by. It will still be a big-talking signal.

He could just as well get a connex 4600 turbo then. mine keys up about 50 and swings just under 200 watts.

HOw far are you wanting to get?, A 29 will do about 4-5 miles after you have it tuned

With a proper antenna setup a box stock 29 will do better then 5 miles. I have easily reached out past 10 miles with a box stock 29.

Im talking consistancy, On occation, when all the planets are in line 10 miles, with out help,
4-5, is a closer consistancy, for a 29, but i do like you suggestion on the connex, as Im looking into buying another myself

Conditions and terrain dictate how far you can talk. I was up on a hill the other day and talked over 50 miles with a Uniden Pro 510 and a Wilson 1000 antenna. And I did it real easy so I had more distance to spare.

Exactly, this is why I add the "consistancy" comment
