Volvos are virtually dealership only.
-
Regular maintenance 25-40k oil pm and they often go 1.5M or better life.
Cups are hit or miss... The biggest thing imo is the stock fan temp , WAY too hot.... And. no factory manual fan switch option.....
**You can as add a manual fan switch really easy though because the truck computer is actually set up for it.(Important)
I'm at 350k and haven't had anything major with this engine, it's been more reliable than any of the pre emissions engines I've had. Go figure!!
Mechanics wise they definitely don't have to go to the dealer.
There is nothing that special about it that a half decent mechanic couldn't work on.
Seriously.
Even engine Diagnostics are supported by a lot of Tool Company scanning devices...
Many of the foreigners that buy them wrench on them like it's a American with a chevy, lol.

Dave_in_AZ and Dadetrucking305 Thank this. -
So the software is available to all mechanics It’s not like Paccar’s where you have to go to the dealership?
Would you recommend it over the Cummins 2250 or Detroit DD13-15?
Is there anything I have to look out for when buying them used? I know on the ISX the pump is the big one and the DD15 Its the plastic pickup tube. -
I'd go Detroit DD13 if not the VoMack D13/MP8
Nope, not needed .. aftermarket scanners work on them for sure. With the software package
The only engine i would compare would be the DD13, they are pretty solid.
Forget anything isx or DD15 with 500k + , the bottom ends in most don't make it to 1M. The ISX is notorious to be needing a in frame 600-800k. Carbon packing issues etc.Last edited: Aug 19, 2018

You won't find a cascadia with a 3:55 ratio. Freightliner offers a 3:58, which is practically the same thing.
-
Yup, same thing
3.58s with 22.5LPs hopefully.
. -
And as far as the rest of the Mack truck are there any other issues or are they pretty solid?
I found a 14 CXU613 with 3.55,445hp,13 speed, and 587,389 miles. It was formerly a Jacobson Trucking company truck out of Iowa before XPO bought them out. -
Or should I go with a Cascadia and DD13?
And what’s up with all the Volvo hate? -
Yeah pretty solid. The later ones like that 14' had their def issues pretty sorted out.(Compared to 11,12,13)
Look for emissions maintenance.... Every 120k that def filter cartridge on the pump needed changed ... The air dryer every 6 months.. important ! (Keeps AHI dry)
Hopefully they ran 10-30 oil instead of 15-40(that's another discussion)
