So here's the story:
Broker called after seeing my truck posted for tomorrow, I tell the broker I'm driving so I need the mileage. Broker understates significantly (1880 vs 2050 actual) and I give a quote based on her mileage figure. We negotiate a bit and settle on a price. I stop at the next rest area, unpost my truck, and pull up the load (which is still posted on the board) and see that the mileage was not accurate, so I call broker and tell them this won't work for me, here is my bottom $ offer on the actual mileage. Broker very reluctantly accepts.
Spend next 2 1/2 hours jumping through their safety dept hoops to get set up, and finally get told I'm approved & the rate con is on the way. 2 hours later I ask where the rate con is -- get a response from a supervisor CCing the broker saying that I'm getting antsy.
I'm just not interested in working with this agent -- what's the best way to extricate myself without burning bridges? Still no rate con after 3 hours now -- I feel like they're shopping for a better rate while I've taken my truck off the market for the better part of a day...
3 hours & no rate con -- how to (professionally) tell broker off?

Unless I know the broker I continue to look for a load. If I don't get the rate conformation I step up my efforts to get another load and if I find one, I book it. If the other rate conformation comes in I just ignore and their phone calls.

My ques is why would you want to even bother working with them after treatment you have received so far. And it happens you get to the shipper and load is gone at least you didn't run 50 or more miles for free. Me no rate con iam looking for different load just keep a mental note about who you dealt with and remeber for the next time and charge a lot more if you do want to deal with them again. And it isn't going to bother that broker at all heck he will probably be bragging about how he pissed off some driver today. Move to next load don't sweat it.
Cetane+ Thanks this. -
Many brokers don't actually have the load and have to call the shipper and make sure it hasn't been booked by another broker. Other times the broker has to get an OK on the rate you agreed on. If the broker actually has the load you should get the rate agreement within 15 minutes. I always ask how long before I receive the rate agreement. I can tell right away if something is up and will start looking for another load.

Until I got a rate confirmation, my truck remained posted and available. If another broker offered me a load with a decent rate, and it had been more than 15 minutes since verbal confirmation with no rate con, then I took it.

The few times I've dealt with TQL I get the rate conformation but no pickup address, pickup number or delivery address. I call back up and they say we are working on getting that so I book another load. Next day rolls around and a phone call at 8am asking if I'm ready to be dispatched. I laugh and tell them I booked another load, picked it up and already on my way. They are like WHAT!!!! You better pick up that load!! I tell them you never gave me any pickup info like I asked.

Yeah, I don't play those games. They're shopping for a cheaper rate. I'd be shopping for a better one. Until I have everything in my possession, it's not a done deal. And if I show up for a pickup and it's no longer available, they pay MY idea of an acceptable TONU or we never speak again.
I had a broker call me back last week 4 hours after rejecting my offer. He decided to take it after all. Too late!double yellow and Skate-Board Thank this. -
Its not a contract until you receive a confirmation in writing. ... i would put your truck back on the board and I would advise them if you dont have a confirmation in 15 minutes, your moving on to something else and not doing the load.
double yellow Thanks this. -
Until you have a rate confirmation with all the load information, you don't have a load booked. There is no need to play games. I won't waste my time unless I receive everything I need within a few minutes. It is not uncommon for some brokers to try to tie up one truck while they look for another truck that is willing to haul the load for a cheaper rate. I refuse to do business with people who play these games. I won't give someone a second chance if that is the way they do business.
