Ohio. Anyways, I have at least 8 weeks with a trainer to correct most of my problems. My trainer has more than 30 years of experience with trucking. He hauled reefer trucks. He done recovery for a couple of years. He has hauled morphin from East coast to West coast. He is not perfect but is teaching me a great deal.

Stay out of the right lane during regular hours unless you see a faster truck coming and there is a no more than 6 wheels in the left (which is most major cities) then get over and let them pass. The reason I say stay out of the right during peak times is that people have a tendency to cut you off getting into that lane to get off or get on and they don't realize how much distance you require to stop or even slow down to accommodate them. I've seen vets and rookies alike get blamed for fender benders this way. I know you always want to leave an out (shoulders or open lanes) but peak hours is one time I know where this rule doesn't fly and can help diminish a greater risk. It's on you to pay attention to trucks wanting to pass in the center lane though so always be aware of your surroundings and try to plan ahead given changing circumstances. If you can't get over safely or in enough time don't panic just wait until you can. The other driver if also paying attention will also know this and will normally thank you rather than frown at you and rambo you on the radio.

Eh, this applies to two lane with middle turning lane US highways in small towns too as you will most often encounter hard breaking and non-yielding or stop sign blowing vehicles that want to be in front of you when they should have waited 3 more seconds and then just passed you.

Everybody is pretty much right on here. The one thought I have is about the student that thinks a truck "just came out of nowhere" and passed on the right.
That tells me that he wasn't paying attention, period.
Almost ALL accidents are caused by one little thing.
Someone wasn't paying attention to something.

I am pretty sure you'll see signs on the highway that say something like "Slower Traffic Keep Right" but Hey I could be wrong,

little quotes from readers. there are apparently people who think taking the law into their own hands is their RIGHT!
"well the SPEED LIMIT IS 65, if i go 65 in the left lane, that is my RIGHT" :biggrin_25516:

this is an either or question. I dont think there is a right answer, or wrong answer!! LOL
I Hate bieng in the right, and slowing to 45 everytime some a-hole on a sunday drive doesnt know how to merge. (an old man actually ran into me in Indio,CA one time for improper merging, he got out and asked if I just wanted to pay the damages, I said..... ITS YOUR FAULT MISTER...... He turned around and got in his care and left at a high rate of fuel consumption!!) LOL
On the other hand, I hate bieng held up while JB on a sunday drive sits in the middle, at 62 MPH, because his load is the MOST Important load in all the history of freight haulers.
So t make a long story short: JUST USE YOUR BEST JUDGEMENT, AND BE SAFE.

i really wish FL. would take up the stance of "keep right pass left it's the law"
but even so i DOUBT it would be enforced.
just like the "don't get a ticket, give trucks space" signs all over the place.

I don't like trucks in the slow lane on the interstate through here; it's too short for merging on most of them. However, I do notice trucks trying to get over one lane in respect, but sometimes can't do it, so we all bottleneck.
I think the answer would be for the slower trucks to GET RID OF THE #### GOVERNORS so they can keep up with the rest of the world...
    Well, I can dream, can't I?
Point here is, rig drivers have to use best judgement and protect the eneducated and selfish public. And when we're in the middle lane, they don't know it's for their own good. When we're in the slow lane, they don't know it's for their own good. When we're trying to get a slightly faster truck ahead of a slower one that further slows to allow the pass, they don't know that it's for their own good.
We are the watchmen on the tower; they are the huddled masses. Out of control maybe, but huddled nonetheless. Just look at them.
