wasnt there already another thread on this? oh well ill say here what i said there.....

When it comes to 3 lane interstates/highways, it all depends on how many on-ramps there are. If there is one every other mile, i'm in the center lane. I dont care how many other truck drivers i tick off, as long as i do the speed limit or close to it....62-63 in a 65 is acceptable... because i am going to be looking out for one driver....ME. If it is safer for me to be in the center lane because 80% of the 4-wheelers still dont know how to merge, then ill be there. What is worse....a trucker who has to slow down from going 10mph over the speed limit, or me, being in the far right lane, having to slow to 10-15 under so a 4-wheeler can merge and become a hazard myself?

When the ramps are that close, I think it's becoming standard practice to do as you say. When things spread out, and there's enough room to pass, and still get over for the next ramp, you should move over to allow faster trucks through. I know I will.
If the traffic is butt-heavy anyway, it won't matter much, because nobody's really going anywhere.

I stay if the middle lane as much as possible. To me it is called the "lane of least resistance". In other words, why be in the right when every time you turn around your either having to slow down or move over so someone can get on the highway..

I'm from Mass.,and I stay in the right lane.As congested as New England is,most ramps are still about 10 miles apart. It takes a minute to clear the ramp and I make better time because all the four wheelers are also in the center lane

I agree with this statement. The general rule is the "Stay Right, Pass Left". But as with everything else in life there are exceptions to the rule. If your going through a city and traffic is thick enough that people are constantly entering and exiting the ramps it's best to stay one lane to the middle. If you get passed by a big truck it is more than likely Billy Big Rigger and no matter what lane you're in you are in his way. Let him go on by, if he makes a comment on the radio thank him for the lesson learned. You'll more than likely never see him again and by the time he stops he will be mad at so many drivers that held him up he probably won't even remember you.

Well I am in New England too, and most of the cities I drive in have a ramp every half mile or less. Dont ya just love the short exits that have an entrance before them together? It blew me away going through Boston, I-93s/128? during rush hour and the four wheelers were using the break-down lane. Shudda seen them trying to merge with the guys getting on. It took me a few to realize it was legal. When in Rome? Rarely do I let the idiots get me upset. Mostly I sit there and enjoy the show. I drive at a constant speed and stay in whatever lane causes least resistance and let them deal with me, holding my line. Wide open spaces with light traffic I am usually to the far right.

heck yes if you can't do the speed limit then heck ya get in the right lane. Unless you are able to pass thats the lane you should be in. And where did you get this crazy idea that the middle lane was the munford lane? As you go along the highway don't you see the sign that says " slower traffic keep right" that means far right newbe.

I currently drive team with my spouse. I select the "smoothest" lane possible to drive in. With a 70 mph truck I am able to do the legal speed limit throughout most of the country. Sometimes I will drive in the middle lane because the roadway is not as broken up. Examples are South Carolina and North Carolina on I95. In 2 lane situations I will use the left lane (passing lane) when it is smoother.

It is more important to me that my partner gets some sleep while the truck is moving rather than stay in the roughest lane on the highway just so speeders can use the interstates as their personal drag strips.

Vehicles can and do pass me on the right. I see them and am aware they are giving me the middle finger salute when they fly by me. I love it when they get pulled over by the speed cops and I get to laugh and wave while I drive by "in the left lane."

So the next time you see a truck in the passing lane with no vehicles being passed in the right lane you now know they may have a sleeping co-driver in the back.

Just today, rolling thru Cincy....i was in the right lane, along with 90% of the other trucks. and then i hear this driver yelling and crying to this Schneider driver (who wasnt the only one in the center lane) doing the speed limit....55. This crybaby driver saw me in his rear-view and said, "heII, even Swift back there is passing you..." Someone told him to shut up, and he started in with that 'ill beat you up, pull your truck over' verbage. I laughed at him, and told him he wasnt going to do anything.....to that he said, 'pull your truck over and ill show you'. I told him to pull his truck over first, since i was behind him....and i'd be more than happy to have a little chat on the side of the road'.

naturally i heard nothing but dead silence, then after a few long seconds he pipes up, "i dont have the time to waste...."

it was funny eggin' him on......he sounded like he was about to have a heart attack. I just told him to ST#U, and if he didnt like how someone was driving their truck, and it didnt effect them or delay them, he needs to just keep both hands on the wheel.
