I worked for YRC for about a year. This was the only job I ever had where no matter what terminal you went to the dispatchers treated you like you were dog poop. The equipment is falling apart. Take it to the shop and they will fix the problem with a band aid and leave it to break for the next guy. Line haul is super easy, but you can pull wagons for a much better carrier. I didn't hate my job. But the grass is greener elsewhere

    Funny thread....

Still thousands of layed off drivers not hired back yet...Tucson terminal said, "we;ll probably never be taking resumes/applications again, too many drivers waiting to come back"
I know market size matters, of course, just sayin

Here, they're driving some serious pieces of crap..I saw the oldest scariest yellow trailer (split rim) and some other trailer with a outside dolly tire completely missing...couldnt believe it

Now, im cool with the notion, the guys in the crappier older stuff make more, in my village it is so...but c'mon

Guys are in some dangerous stuff here to make the 28 bucks, or 24 or whatever it is

And as a big YRC follwer, many say they over hire, and will set guys free in the drop of a hat..

    So, YRC? meh

Saia's stuff is wearing out and not being replaced...Here, Central and Estes have the nice equipment

All this so location dependant tho...I think every carrier has good barns, and crappy barns

A friend worked for BigR for a few years. He got a letter he showed me the other day, from Central States Pension. His pension, if it's still around, went from $455.00 a month, to less than $200.00 I'm betting the leaders of Teamsters still have a full pension, benefit's, etc.
And I was a Teamster, with Central Transport, in the 80's, and about 6 month's with Preston.

For 2013, the maximum guaranteed amount is $4,789.77 per month ($57,477.24 per year) for workers who begin receiving payments from PBGC at age 65. The maximum guarantee is lower if you begin receiving payments from PBGC before age 65 or if your pension includes benefits for a surviving spouse or other beneficiary. The maximum guarantee is higher if you are over age 65 when you begin receiving benefits from PBGC

Big R is Roadway. Central Transport, Warren Michigan, was Teamsters for a long time, until Matty shut them down, and reopened a few years later as non union. They had O/O's who ran linehauls nitely, who were alsoTeamsters.

Do I have to explain who Matty is? Matty Maroune, who owns Central, their subsidiaries, and the Ambassador bridge.

    Anything else?

I work for R&L carriers , outta Wilmington ohio .. Did line haul for 4 1/2 yrs. 74k in 2014. Went to P&D( city driver) Last March. Been with company 4 ltitle over 5 yRS now. 9am start time off around 6pm unless I do extra city truck load pick ups for more hours ... Took a paycut from line haul but working nights sucks.. No life. 25.87/hr doing my M-F P&D route. Life's a lot better!!!....don't need a union to make good $$... Keep ur record clean & go anywhere...I wouldn't wanna stay in a motel but it deffly beats sleeping in a truck i guess....but I wouldn't go back to nights for 100,000 year. Life's to short to work it away. Family means more to me. Prolly 65k doing my daytime gig. Worth 9k a year Loss to me. No regrets !!!

I have no idea if YRC opportunity is eternal. I don't think anyone does.

I have never been disrespected by anyone, yet.

Equipment is not all that bad. It may be old, beaten, but by contract will be repaired to maintain safety standards at the first repair facility. But the driver has to write up the DVIR when he notices an issue.

In the end all jobs are what you make of it. I just do my job and thank them for the opportunity. I don't advise them on how to do their job.
