    1st)

I'm looking into getting a dashcam for the truck. I've been doing a bit of research around here. I have decided that no matter what brand I choose I will need to pick it up at a truck stop since I rarely get near enough to my house to even meet up with my kids until I go home after a month out. I'm leaning toward Garman but there was one that I saw I think it was in Petro that had 2 HD cams for $150 but I don't remember what it was called. My question is how do they work? How do they save the video feed? Do I have to purchase an external hard drive to go with it to save the video or does it link to my computer? Does is use SD cards? I think I want the one that has the 2 cams but I think it was RoadPro and I hear that's not such a good one.

I'm also thinking about purchasing Dish Network for those long hours at the shippers/receivers. I've read that I can add it to my home service for a small fee which is fine with me. My question is how do you hook them up? I know they hang from the window but what if it's raining? Can you roll the window up enough to keep the rain out? Are they worth the $500 price tag?

I fractured my ribs about a week ago. I left out on a load Friday last week thinking it was just inflamed muscles but ended up coming home Tuesday to go to the doc and he said I fractured the lower right ribs. He was a DOT doc and all he asked was "what do you want to do?" I had no clue so just said take a couple days off with the anti-inflammatory to see if it would be better. I go back to the urgent care today but think I'm going to go to the other one instead and see what they say. I know they no longer wrap fractured/broken ribs (although I do not understand why because it feels so much better with the wrap on) but what can I do to help ease the pain while climbing in and out of the truck and opening the trailer doors which seems to be the most painful parts? I really want to get back to work but I'm afraid of causing myself more damage without supporting the ribs somehow.

Good heavens, dear, if it wasn't for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all.

IMO, the dash cam would be a good idea. The satellite TV... I tend to be of the opinion that, if you're getting your money's worth out of it, you're sitting too long to be making money. Just my $.02 worth on that.
Re: the ribs, find out what's going on there first. I understand your eagerness to get back to work, but if you end up making it worse, it'll put you out of work even longer.

    LOL I know right!

Sad thing is that I did it trying to fix my septic. While I was out on the road my kids called saying the sewer was backing up into the house. I was days out from my days off so had to go home and get it taken care of. After I dug up the sewer the guy came out and started pumping it. We tried to get one of the covers open but it refused. After working on it with the shovel I leaned over and tried to pull it up by hand. I was apparently leaned over just right that my rib hit my hip bone and I though it just popped against each other and caused a sore muscle but apparently I fractured it.

Thank you WitchingHour. I go to the doc again today. Hopefully, they will be more helpful than the DOT doc I saw Tuesday. I wish I knew what I was supposed to do with it but he wasn't helpful.

I wish I could go more but I've been stuck at Tyson sometimes 8 hours up to 30+ hours. STT sat there not long ago for 2 days. I prefer to keep going but running a refer I'm finding I sit a LOT. :-( It's soooo boring.

Wow, a truck driver AND works on her own septic tank. You sound like my kind of gal. I agree, best get the ribs checked by a pro. One thing I don't do is my own healthcare.

I don't watch TV on the road because I really don't have the time so satellite would be a lot of money for nothing. I buy some cheap movies from Walmart and watch them when I get time on my laptop. That seems to work out for me. The rib issue is definitely one that is going to be with you for a while, they don't heal quickly at all. I don't have a dash cam myself but I think I should consider investing in one just in case somebody puts me in a spot I can't get out of. I hope your ribs heal quickly for you...that's a whole lot of pain to go through.

Whom ever is pumping out your septic should dig it up.You need to get mad at somebody, sitting like that is totally unacceptable. If you pull in and the loads is not ready in an hour I would be on the phine to get out of there.

Hi Powder Joints, I agree on the sitting. If these places can put you on the back burner, they will. I've found, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. They probably see a woman, and try and get over on her. I know, my ex-gf got the run around many times until she put her foot down, and basically threatened them, and made a few phone calls and guess what, back 'er in to door #16. (or whatever)

LOL I was home Monday and he was coming Tuesday. He would have done the digging for an extra cost but since I was home I dug it up. ;) I like the physical work. And it's no worse than cleaning the horse stalls.

Both STT and I have tried but once there the company won't let us go. I sat there for over 28 hours one time because the trailer was loaded and ready to go but was far to damaged to drive with so I refused the trailer. It took them that long to get it offloaded into another trailer but the company had me on that load and I wasn't getting another one. STT called several times a day trying to get them to swap him out but they were adamant that he was going to haul that load even though there were others ready to go and drivers coming and going over that 2 days. It's nothing new to sit for an hour or more waiting to load/unload. I waited upwards of 7 hours waiting to load at another company while with STT. It really irks me that the shipper/receiver can be late but if we are we get service failures and get into trouble for being even minutes late.

Thank you everyone. I suppose it's time to get ready to go to the doc. Hopefully, she/he knows what she's/he's doing. ;)

I use the Cobra CDR 900 dash cam. ($250)

It comes with an 8GB MicroSD card, upgradable to 64GB.
It connects to a computer via USB, so you can view and copy files as you like.
The files are saved in 3 minute increments. The larger the SD card the longer it will record before it starts overwriting files. First in/first out, so you always have at least the last hour or so.
With a 64GB card I card I have a running loop of about 7 hours. It can be increased by adjusting the format options. It defaults to a 50/50 ratio for dash cam and (the other mode, which I can't remember the name for right now.)

I bought this Cobra because of the 64GB capacity - most only allow 16GB-32GB.
It has the highest resolutions. It does 1080P or 1296P.
It also has the widest viewing angle - 160 degrees. It can capture both fender mirrors, and when a car passes my windshield pillar it is on film.
The night vision is excellent as well.

To gain access to many options a smart phone is required.
I don't have one, so I am stuck with 1080P and other standard things.
