3 pin power Cord for stryker 955

Looks like the power cord that most CB radios use. Any idea what gauge wire it is? I can't tell by looking at the picture. What size fuse is it?
I can't remember off the top of my head what the pep power is on the Stryker 955, but I would think the power cord should be at least 12 gauge wire. Although SSB isn't 100% duty cycle so the power cord that comes with the radio should be okay. I wouldn't think the factory would be dumb enough to skimp on the power cord size. You can upgrade the wire but the connector will still be the same, which may or not be a problem.

 

I'm not quite sure what you are saying.... is this a power cord you made? Eight gauge wire would be over kill for this radio, plus it would be harder to work with installing in a mobile environment. Doing some quick research, this radio puts out around 70 watts ( I assume that's if you scream into the microphone) on SSB. On a support stryker radio website they state that "The SR-955HPC will draw no more than 13 amps at full power", so I guess that's why the factory uses a 15 amp fuse. If the radio draws 15 amps, then you would usually use a 14 gauge wire, 20 amps = 12 gauge, 25 amps = 10 gauge wire. Nothing wrong with over kill as far as wire size go, but to me it isn't necessary, but that's just me. I do use the blade fuse holder with my higher power radios, because of the better quality over the plastic round fuse holders.

Edit: Those numbers for amps and wire gauge, are just a rule of thumb for a mode like SSB, or low power AM. If you are using a mode like FM or RTTY that really labors the PA in the radio, then I would recommend bumping the wire size up a gauge.

 

Your welcome. I guess I will have to eat my words that, it would be dumb for Stryker to sell radios with too light of a power cord. It sounds like they are doing just that. I still think 12 gauge wire would work just fine. At any rate you use what ever gauge you feel comfortable with.
