Talk about multiple deep pockets. Sometimes it takes one that is off the chart lawbreaker to finally get the regulatory bodies off the dime.
And the companies/entities, in this case Covenant and the USPS to actually be forced to start doing their job.

Since the mix of mail has gone from 70% letters/30% parcels 25 years ago to 20% letters/80% parcels, there is a lot of freight being moved by that organization.

Falsified cab card is bad news for the victim's families. It means the truck was not registered. So insurance...? Probably not.

I'm still scratching my head over 295 inspections in 24 months with only 65 power units. The cops somewhere must have been on the lookout for this company.

And that's why I've been saying that the push for ELP and non domicile cdls isn't going to amount to much - there are so many drivers and carriers like this that operate with impunity. Every year after Road Check the various state patrols do a media push showing all the major defects they found. Drivers operating during a known special enforcement event with missing brake chambers - not inoperable, but actually missing.

Until the inspection rate goes above 2%, nothing is going to change. In the year I've been driving nights, I've seen 3 open weigh stations. When I was OTR I knew that leaving out from the house on Sunday there was a 95% chance that I could drive 600 miles in any direction and not see a single open weigh station. It's been at least 4 years since my last inspection. In order for anything to change in this industry, we need to start enforcing the regulations.

 

It makes me angry when someone does that the speeding through a truck stop parking lot. Of course I don't usually say anything to the driver about it but notice it's a foreigner most of the time. So, even if I did say something to the driver personally he will likely play stupid like he can't understand me anyway. Besides, I am not law enforcement, either. Now, if said dude hits my truck in the process of driving like that, that changes things drastically.

One guy in a white Volvo parked on the shoulder of a ramp exiting a rest area to the highway learned an invaluable lesson. Someone, I don't know who, I only saw his truck as I passed the rest area and noticed his truck was torn the hell up on the driver side like someone just scraped every foot of their trailer against his truck.
