    Exactly right. Speeding with chains on is risky. Dumb, too. All it takes is one time of having to cut a broken and flung chain that's wrapped around an axle or destroyed an air can and hoses...or worse yet, having to pay to have it done by some smirking troglodyte...and a guy usually learns to slow down and check the chains once in awhile.
    How do I know? I leaned it the hard way, that's how. Before cam-lock tighteners were common it wasn't an unusual thing to have happen. Once.

    It may take two or three stops, but if a fella is going to have to run them when they really aren't needed, it pays to get them as tight as possible. Slogging up the hill off road for a mile or two not-so-much.
