My recommendation is because the school is in Indiana and the truck freight lanes for KLLM are running 48 states. I recommended KLLM because I doubt he wants to sling groceries in a defined, limited area from his home. But, that's his choice.

We started with Swift for CDL school and a job, drove for them 1 year to get experience and then went off to another company that paid more and had faster trucks. I don't know if it was the best way to go but it worked for us. SO I suggest starting with a "training" company so you can get your CDL and then get experience OTR then you can decide which direction you want to go as regional or local or even a specialty hauler.

Didn’t see any of that mentioned and not willing to assume.

MLS is an hourly, dedicated company, with good equipment, who run a ton of loads out of/through the metro Indy area.

You know, as an older man, I like to ask other older men, what they did for a job. You'd be surprised ( I was) how many are ex-LEOs. Many now relegated to the Walmart cashier or self serve gas station, and have no regrets. I think you could do okay, but as a retirement gig, it may be more than you bargained for. It's not a vacation, and coming from a strict past, like military, you may be appalled at what really goes on behind the scenes, the cops never knew about. Truck stop antics, or loading/unloading snafus, weather, those pesky 4 wheelers, may have you wondering why you did this. Some cute older single women are Walmart cashiers,( I've asked them all, nothing yet) heck, fishin' with no bait is better yet,,just sayin',,
IF YOU MUST, however, trucking requires 100%, there is no part time trucking, similar to your LEO job, and highly regulated, an irritation most don't like, but something you may be used to. I cut my CDL in half at age 62, I wanted nothing to do with trucking, but attend this site just "keep my 5th wheel greased", but quite frankly, I think there are better gigs for an ex-LEO. Community should be your priority because you have so much experience with it. Trucking, I feel, would be a waste of a great talent like that. Good luck.

    Thanks for your service.

You could go snchieder and transfer to tankers. Tanker pays more and you get treated better. After your first year you should make around a 100k. First year sucks. Lots of time away from home. After 6 months experience better job opportunities open up.

Do weigh stations need help. You could become a DOT inspector. Don't know if that would mess with your pension. Or if scales are close to where you live.
