For the OP buy some foreclosure condos with the $300k and rent them out. Then live off the rent money sitting on the beach. -
There are many areas to park in Medley and out towards the casino on the way to Homestead on 997 and Tamiami trail. Just stick with parking in Medley and you'll be fine.
As for trucking out of Miami? Look into Costa Farms. They run flowers out of South Florida. If you really want to go into the trucking business, you could do that from Miami. But I agree with the 300k could be better used doing something else...

richter , you didn't understand a word I posted. a guy who cares is going to care no matter what he is paid, a dummy is going to be a dummy no matter the pay. its something been taught or born into him growing up. you cant pay someone enough to teach him caring or work ethic.

On this note, the easiest way to keep a team happy is to give them plenty of space, and the more driver friendly the truck is, the better. If you're investing in trucks with tiny sleepers and minimal storage, I would advise recruiting solo drivers. Team trucks don't stop often if they're being driven properly, so amenities like a built in fridge and AC power are chum in the water for teams.
Volvo 780s and Freightliner Cascadias are the nicest team-friendly fleet trucks I've run across so far. -
A guy who cares but isnt paid well and treated poorly will stop caring. If people are paid what they feel they are worth and are satisfied with their job, they work harder. Its simple economics. Can you honestly say you wont treat the equipment better if you were being paid twice as much?
i wouldnt hire a "dummy" to start with, but the non dummy's aren't gonna sign on some ware that they wont be compensated correctly. What is your "hard earned advice" . Don't run a business and don't expand. That sounds like really sucky advice. Just because you didn't do well with employees dosn't mean i wont. -
Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. I've hired and fired drivers. All well paid experienced "professionals" who tore up my late model Columbias.

richter, you again missed the main point, when you find that guy that cares Then you pay what it takes to keep him. theres a huge difference.

Simple to me. A megalomaniac with no understanding of margin of profit in the industry who thinks by his example to show everybody what can be done. And yes, I have seen a family to invest years to build a fleet, and no in one year you ll be lucky to be still in business, let alone attract some kind of investors
