For 30k... buy some land and build a shop.

start outfitting it with tools, buy an old beat up truck and just start fixing crap. 10 years from now, sell your mechanics shop buisness for a few million, buy 2 brand new trucks and go out of buisness 3 years later

 

Charge shop fees and you'll be a billionaire in a month

 

You're a brave man to spend so much money without knowing what kind of revenue you'll be generating. Your ROI will be a very long process if you recoup it at all in such poor market conditions.

 

For 30k i might have a reitenour for you

Im never 100% kidding but 30k on a trailer is pretty steep if its not in near perfect condition

Been thinking about this. Its funny how when someone posts about buying a truck with little to no experience, everyone dogpiles in and ####s all over them.

A set of tools doesn't make you a mechanic and 8 years of fixing your own car or truck in the backyard doesn't count. You make one mistake and it could cost you your business.

Experience builds efficiency and quality. A guy who spends twice the time on a job because he had zero clue what he's into won't get much return business and you can't make money discounting 50% of your time.

I would say the chance of success in opening a repair shop with anything less than 5 years experience, under the mentorship of someone who has been in the profession for a long time, is pretty slim.

 

Was somewhat tongue in cheek, ANY buisness venture is risky by nature. But i will say the # 1 thing trucking faces as an o/o is lack of being able to repair things yourself be it from lack of know-how or lack of tools/space, the second is having a second truck.

You can beat this by pushing miles and keeping up on maintenance with a brand new truck to some degree, but then you have high overhead in the shape of big payments, and its not a sure thing either
