I run 315s 385 is just to much stress on the outer wheel bearings unless you have the bigger axle rating.

I had 385’s and the edges always wore faster then the center. Think under inflation wear pattern but I always had them aired up to 125-130psi. Normally ran 13.5-14.5 on the steer with 16k max so I dropped to a set of 315’s but have only had them a month now. Every tire guy I talked to said 385’s wear that way on steer axles. 385’s where bridgestones my 854’s lasted about 115k and the 244’s lasted about 150k all highway miles. My 315’s are Michelin XZE’s. Another thing to remember is they take different rim’s. 385’s need 12.25” rim where 315’s are 9” wide.

If you’re running 8.25” wide rims then yes you’ll need wider rims unless you wanna shorten tire life but more so its because of the weight and pressure the tires are capable of carrying. 9” wide rims are rated for 10,000 pounds and 130psi. You can get them in ether flat faced or standard dished.

Edit: 315’s will also be about 2” taller then your low pro’s as well since they are ruffly a 42” tire.

Because some states, OR & WA, like to go by pounds per inch not the weight rating on the sidewall. So for me to get 14,6 on the steers, I have to have at least a 12.5” wide tire. Plus there are very few commonly available 11r or 12r tires that get a 7500 pound rating if we could use the sidewall rating. Plus its better to have the tires rated higher if trying to fudge the weight a little as most DOT guys look at the tires first that Ive seen.

Unless you have a trailer which has 385's,i would suggest you run the 315's.
I run 385's but when they are damaged or getting close to where i regroove them,i throw them on my trailer.
Get new ones for the steer.
