    As I understand it from the govt. website , the 34 hour reset requires that you be off duty and NOT working in any other job. OK, but if you have the truck bobtail and want to go to a hotel for example and then take the truck to, I don't know, restock your groceries, whatever, how do they view that?

    If you are driving your personal vehicle under same circumstances it is a non isse, but if you are on the road and all you have is the bobtail, what do you do? Or is it even an issue? Thanks!

    That is a carrier thing....

    When I'm bobtailed, I'm off duty

    If you log 34 hours of off-duty time or some sleeper time on the mix.. as long as its not driving (on duty) or on duty not driving...

    Bobtailing to the grocery store isn't "driving" for your job. Running a marathon isn't on any line, and doesn't effect your reset, either.

    it is personal conveyance and doesnt have to be logged on duty, that holds entirely true if you own the truck, however some carriers dont allow for this. but on electronic logs there will be a personal conveyance tab so it wont go to driving time when on PC

    For a newbie....don't worry about it...few starter companies will allow personel use...too much room for abuse, and the cost of the extra miles, fuel, wear and tear....companies that hire more experanced drivers allow this sometimes as a benifit...
    Just remember, if they do, it is my understanding the personal convayance must begin and end in the same location.

    for Scheider, they have elogs and all of the company trucks automatically go to drive line after 1 mile of driving. The o/o have line 5 so they can use their truck as a personal vehicle. I personally have used the big truck for personal use (not for Schneider) in the past have left it off duty. If the DOT would have ever stopped me, i dont know how that would have went.

    If you are sitting in a truckstop on your 34 hr reset and you want to go down the road to the mall or whatever, that is personal conveyance. That tractor is not a jail cell...

    Just find out your companies policy. advice on here is likely to get you in trouble. Each company is different. If you are concerned about it and can't get an answer get a cab or hoof it.

    You're allowed to drive off duty under 3 circumstances;

    1) Off duty drive time is limited to 2 hours a day.

    2) You cannot, under any circumstance, drive off duty with a loaded trailer.

    3) You cannot use off duty to advance on a route. If under a load assignment, drive away from the shipper. Driving towards the shipper will give you a violation.
