Hello. New to the forum.
I have been doing some research and reading a lot of the previous posts related to this topic and found some interesting info., yet i'm still a little unsure on a few things.
Here's what I have:
1995 W.Star 4964 day cab used on my Dairy Farm hauling heavy.
18 speed
4.10 rears/46k lb.
3406E 5EK 31620 (family#RCP893EZDARA) w/ a 500 hp flash(I think)
fuel temp and boost wires installed
turbo waste gate has been disabled, pulls 30lb boost with cold temps.
This unit has has yet to be opened up and rebuilt to my knowledge. Runs like a top with very little blow-by.
I have never liked this 500 hp program. The only good thing about the current 500 flash is that it has wicked low RPM torque. There was a 475 program in it when I bought it that if I remember correctly seemed stronger. This thing is just weak and underfueled. Even if I lug it in a long hard pull the Pyro. still barely ever sees over 900 Deg. (on the cold side). This tells me there is room for more fuel.?
Supposedly there is a Tech. at one of the local shops that is really good with Electronic Cat's. I was wondering what my options may be for a better flash, keeping in mind this program is weak. I do well to stay with 427 Macks.
I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or advice anyone has to offer so I might be better educated if and when I take my truck to the shop.
Thanks
Floyd

3406E 5EK31620
Specification Number
2T-5988
Arrangement Number
119-1453
Corr FL Power
455 HP
Built in 1994.
16.3:1 Comp
Injectors: 2113023 Good for 500~650HP
Turbo:1169854
Technically it has all the wrong parts for a 500HP but the engine was built in 1994 so God knows whats in it now and as such you would need to find out what Pistons (comp Ratio), what Injectors, Turbo, ECM Flash file, was in it before anyone could give you good advice on where to from here.

Have your CAC tested, change the fuel filters and check the preasure and look into the fuel tank and see if there is air sucking into the system. Be sure the air filter is clean and the housing is clean, check the turbo, compressor and turbine for damage. Do a valve set. Just a thought!

Thanks for the quick replies.
I have owned the truck since 1999 when it had 318,000 miles on it. I believe all of the components are stock.
However I agree, that before any steps are taken this needs to be verified.
That being said, do you have any recommendations on a flash for my engine, and what it's potential may be?
John, thanks for the advice, i have checked all that you have previously mentioned. I agree with you and always try to use the k.i.s.s. method when troubleshooting. Always check the simple(yet very critical)things first. I must admit i'm not sure what the CAC test stands for though?
Thanks again, your input is appreciated.

My next move would be to see what Flash file is in it now and to do that you would need to plug Caterpillar ET in and read the configuration.
See what Flash file it has in it now and work from there.
knowing that I'm sure some of the locals will have some suggestions for you.
Your original Flash file (Personality Module Part Number) at the time of engine build was a 1164309 however that most likely has changed several times for one reason or another.

CAC .... Charge air cooler,
There, i have told you everything i know about trucks in the first line....however there are members here that will have your truck doing anything you want if you have time and resources($) -
Thank you. I should have known.
I've changed it out. Pressure tested it a couple years ago and it was garbage. Leaked like a seive. -
Checked my turbo part # today. It's a cat re-man OR-7204. Anyone know if this is an acceptable match for my engine? Up to what horse power might this turbo support?
Thanks
Floyd -
That 0R7204 is the CAT Reman Turbo for the Turbo:1169854 I listed above witch matches your serial number.
Floyd Thanks this. -
Thanks again Far Call
