I'm overhauling my million mile 3406E in my '94 pete 379. Currently it's rated at 435hp and 1650torque. I'm wondering what hard parts I need to uprate to 475hp and 1850torque. It already has 2-piece pistons although I dont know what compression ratio. I assume this uprate will involve injectors, turbo and ecm but what about pistons and head??

I would like to put the bottom end together with 475/550 pistons and a new head but run stock power level. I would then do the injectors, turbo, ecm at a later date because I'm too much of a poor man to do it all at once. I've got college buddies working at cat in peoria that say they can rewrite my ecm so i should be in good shape there.

Just looking for some info when I go to buy cat parts.

generaly the pistons are the same(ratio 16.25) what changes is the form of the crown. ill give you some numbers 16.25 the crown 149-5566 the skirt 130-0241.
    E and early c15 16.6:1 the crown 180-7352 the skirt 132-6663 (14.6)
    335-410hp 16.25:1 crown 135-2837 the skirt 130-0241
    435-475hp 16.25:1 crown 7c2888 the skirt 130-0241

I think you also need to chnage the cam, the liner is the same . i hope i helped by giving these numbers or you can search them up yourself. i think if you put less ratio with pressure you can get more hp

5EK02306 the following parts will allow the 550 hp

    0r8321 piston pack
    0r8452 camshaft
    0r7205 turbo
    0r4893 injector

These are Cat reman numbers, They are from a older rerate list, the numbers will change up to newer ones when ordered.

That would allow the 550hp 2100 1708132 flash file

Thanks for all info. I kinda figured the cam would have a different grind to it for more hp. This will definately give me some extra ammo when I or the parts person decide what I need.

On a side note: This engine runs pretty good yet with very little blow by and no leaks. I am 99.9% sure it's all original. It will leave about a dime sized spot of "goo" under the blowby tube if it sits for more than a day. BUT- the #1 liner o-rings are leaking coolant. What are my odds of just replacing the o-rings on #1 and maybe rod/main bearings? Do the o-rings usually start failing one after the other or??

    DDS,

Would this cam be the same or close to one for a 475hp 2ws engine?
Do you know what the compression ratio for these pistons?

    Are they two piece?

    Thanks

Usually if you replace o-rings on one cylinder you will need to do them all or another one will leak almost straight away. It would be easier to do the whole lot at once anyway, once you've got the head and sump off and one liner out its not much more trouble to pull the others.
You can try Bars leak or any other radiator addative to stop the leak if you need to get a few more months out of it. With leaking liner o-rings I have seen about a 70% success rate using addative to stop the leak but... BE WARNED.. this is a tempoary solution only and may cause other issue if you use too much addative. BTW I dont recomend this stuff I'm just saying its and available option.

The camshaft in a 2ws is a 0r8813, also used in the 7cz 600 hp. The 1177059 piston in that pack is a two piece steel with 16.25 to 1 ratio.

If your going to spend the money on a cam, I would buy the marine cam.
