Hi, I have a 98 pete with a 3406e cat. It is smoking and I found oil in the coolant. Would this be the oil cooler? Or something else. Thanks

Hi Cindy, I'm not sure the oil cooler would cause smoking. Sounds like a head gasket, cracked liner or , heaven forbid, a cracked head.
Straight Stacks Thanks this. -
Thanks "semi" retired, will any of those cause the oil in the coolant also?

If your getting coolant in the oil it will steam out the blowby tube. So yes it could be the oil cooler .
Could also be a liner leaking coolant from lower O-rings.
How many miles on engine? Has it ever been rebuilt??
Just to clarify, when you say smoking , out the stacks??? Or blowby tube ??? -

Sounds like you have a few issues going on .
If you have oil in your coolant that's almost always oil cooler . Oil presure is higher then water presure so it will put oil in your coolant .
If your engine has never been rebuilt it probley letting you know it's time to give it some lovin.
Smoke on start up depending on color could be headgasket or injectors themselves.
17 years and we'll over a million miles is above and beyond good service in my book.
Time for a inframe my friend.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
