The engine fan will come on for no reason it will run for about the same amount of time every time this happens I have put a new high pressure switch on it won't do it every day just every now and then

Hi Micheal: Recently went through fan problem with 5EK. Was a simple, stupid problem. When motor rebuilt (3 years ago) wire feeding solenoid was cinched down to tight with a zip tie and broke wire. Would only break curcuit occasionally, causing very erratic operation. Found it after about 1 1/2 of searching.
Most likely not your problem, but just an idea, if all else fails...:biggrin_25514:

I am begining to think that it has to be something like that because it wont do it everyday sometimes it wont do it for months but sometimes you can bend the hood over and when you start down with the hood that will make it come on wiring around high pressure switch seems to be good I am lost Ground maybe dont know

Wires will kill you troubleshooting. Look like he said at pressure points or even at the connectors or connector itself.

Sometimes a wiggle test will reveal it.

I cant seem to find any broken wires I have pulled and wiggled wires every time it seems to throw a fit and nothing. We took it to a shop and they said it was a grounding problem so we put a new ground on the engine seem to fix the problem for about a month or two but now its back again it is getting so frustrating because it is such a good running older truck

When they said it was a grounding problem they ment the wire to send the signal for the fanwas grounding against the truck cab or engine. If you have a manual fan switch in the cab, it could be these wires also

I had a problem with my fan on a1Lw but it was more than every so often, I eventually had to replace the wiring harness because it wasn't protecting against heat and the wires were getting hot causing the fan to turn on...the section by the water pump was the worst.. Just a thought..
