Hi guys, hoping someone has some ideas I can try.
I have a 97 Volvo with CAT 3406E and have been having an issue of the fuel bleeding down and the truck losing its prime.
Usually I can pressurize the return line and get pressure all the way through the system and it will start, but this time I could not get it started.
I have done some research and found it could be the filter head and primer pump (primer pump is new) the fuel pressure regulator, check valve in the return line, or injector O rings.
I am going to replace the filter head tomorrow, and I dont think it would be the injector O rings because there is no fuel in the coolant.
My question is where is the fuel pressure regulator and check valve located?
I only have one fuel filter, that is after the fuel pump. The engine does not have a filter BEFORE the pump.
The fuel pump is also only a couple months old.
Should I replace the fuel line from the tank to the pump?
I appreciate any help.

Hi Gregrob: I believe there is a check valve in filter housing. It will be a 1" hex in bottom of housing. It is fairly cheap(i forget the $ amount, seems like i forget more every day...
).
Others can give you much bettter info, but a place to start? -
Check valve will fix your problem. Cat part# 281-2725 and I believe it's only like $20-$30. Had 2 trucks with the same hard starting problem, fixed them both. Almost takes longer to raise the hood than to screw it in.
S3BNUT Thanks this. -
Where does the check valve install? Thanks for the info

And what about adding a FASS system to help with this?
