Hi new to the forum I have a 2000 pete 379 with low air leaf suspension that I have owned for about a year now and about 6 months ago it has delveloped a bad bounce but only when going over bumps as soon as over them back to smooth. It will also do it when trailer axles hit the bumps. Plus sometimes even do it parked at a dock when they r running in and out with the fork lift. Over the 6 months had it in many shops found nothing wrong or loose. Replaced all shocks, susp bushings, new cab mounts. Any help would be great thanks!

I've heard of this problem from a Pete alignment tech. The cure is an adjustment to the rear suspension components although I cannot recall exactly what they do. You might talk to a good Pete alignment tech that would be familiar with the procedure. There were factory campaigns on this issue so any Pete dealer should be familiar.

Thanks for the reply. It does seam like the suspension is kind of out of wack cause it rides like crap and seams to be a lot more air in the rear bags than the front ones? I know there is suppose to be some diff but seams to be more than normal. Had it at a pete dealer a while ago they put a new leveling valve on and set ride hieght but made no diff.

You could call Mid America Peterbilt and talk to the service dept. They'll tell you exactly what needs to be done.

Thanks bender ill call my local pete and c what they say in morn. Do u know or anyone else know if this is something that I could do or has to be taken to pete?

As I recall, it's a pretty big job involving removing rear suspension parts and flipping them then alignment of the drive axles. He briefly described the procedure to me but I was preoccupied at the time and it's been a while. The issues you describe are exactly the same issues he was describing on low air leaf susp.

I would check the sway bar end bushings on that little short bar in the center right at the rear of the cab or sleeper depending on whether it is a day cab or not. Its in between the two cab air bags. If those bushings are out in either end it lets the cab reel aroud in the back and cause a thumping or knocking noise even if the mounts or cab airbags have been changed i would check that also you can usually pusharound on the rear of the cab or sleeper and here it bumping around and making noise. It don't really sound like its in the suspension if you can feel it while your being loaded at a dock while stoped.

could the leveler be bad?
-
yeah it could be but im still a little unclear of his bounce. I can see it bouncing aroud over bumps but not that much while being loaded at a dock is he hearing a noise with it or is it just a bounce and that could be one of the leveling valves messing up.

Appreciate more input prostreet80 but I have replaced bushings in little sway bar under cab along with all in rear susp. And also put new leveling valve and pete set the ride hieght. Its not like a metal to metal thing or a slaming its a really fast bounce that goes through entire trk almost like a axle bounce but no axle is bouncing had someone ride along me. It is worse when bobtailing and when loaded. Also worse with a air ride trl than a spring ride
