pablo is right--unless your wheel is damaged---just rebuild it
i prefer fontaines--just cause the way they work and lock--easy to rebuild and if kept clean---always in adjustment
mind you a fontaine isnt a good wheel for the hi-range in reverse hook up people

noooooo i think it is less than 1/2 as much---even getting a shop to do it is less
and its not a super hard job to do--the rebuild kit always has instruction --its greasy and grimy---but a good time to wash everything up--and maybe a rattle can paint job underneath--on the frame---so it looks newish---for a couple months anyways

Last time I checked with my Peterbilt dealer the rebuild kit for a Holland 5th wheel was $365 just for the kit plus 5 hours ( if I remember it right) labor to rebuild if not DIY. A JOST 5th wheel was $890. So unles you rebuild your 5th wheel yourself it is better to buy a new JOST 5th wheel. And they have the JOST 5th wheel on sale sometimes.

what if you compare the price of a new holland to the price of a rebuild
i am not very familar with josts--arnt the a bit clunky?
for that matter i am not even a fan of hollands

thats a heck of a price difference--i wonder where fontaine falls into the race
if a fontaine is kept clean and not abused it is an awsome 5th--
it sure isnt as rugged as a holland--but then if it is used and not abused --it doesnt have to be so solid
i can see back in the primitive days before suspension dumps it would have gotten beat up easily with some the 30 mph hookups--but now its much easier on them---
i try and hook up as gently as possible--then listen for a tiny click
but you still see some people hitting the pin so hard they have to get out of the truck and pull their wedgy outta their butt

    mitchtazz Thanks this.
