Hey guys, I am looking at buying a different truck and am leaning towards a 387. I am wondering what are the positives and negatives about the 387. Looking at buying a 2003-07 with a Cat. Any and all help is appriciated!

They are heavy. Additionally, I am always at or near 12,000 on the front axle. Those are my biggest complaints. I pull a stepdeck, I have a high rise which I don't need. That isn't the 387's fault. CB reception isn't the best with the antenna setup they have. It can be fixd though. The doors tend to sag slightly of time and you will get a lot of wind noise.

We bought a 09 387 this year. I would have to say the positive on having one is that it is a Peterbilt. The negative is that it is a Peterbilt! It is a noisy truck and a bit heavy as mentioned. The only problem I have had with ours was with the AC. There is a drip pan for overflow located behind the dash. It plugs up very easy and will get the carpet wet. Other than that I cant say we have had many problems with it. We have the cummins. Averaging 6.8 - 7.8 depending on the load and wind Overall I like the truck.

what I really HATE about that model is the hump in the dash. Right in front of the driver. It serves no purpose except to block your vision. I am 5'6", average for a woman, right? I am faced with a dilemma if I want to see out of the windshield. Move the seat way up, and then raise it, and hope my feet touch the pedals, which is so uncomfortable, or sit how I like to sit, no air, seat far to the back, and now I can't see a thing. I have a friend who is 5'9" and he has the same problem.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind the front axle being heavy as 95% of my loads are on a pintle on the back of the truck. Is their a fix for the sagging doors?

just replaced the hinges on my 387. its a 2001 so i dont complain,. they went 12 years, what does one expect. my truck owes me NO MONEY!! it gets 7s regular, with A FLATBED! i run the c-12, 10 speed. wish i hada 13 speed. I run super singles, and fix my own tires. I dont mount steers as they really need to be balanced. theres plenty of room to get to / from sleeper with bags. i have carpet. always hard to keep clean in the flatbed business, but nice on feet/ cold mornings. i DO wish the column tilted back further cause i like to sit low and stretch out. im short and dont drive there all the time but the wheel doesnt make it any easier. I dont have the factory seat. yank it burn it, buy an aftermarket,. believe me your rear end is worth having the most comfortable seat possible. I drive so many miles a year i cant post the real number here..... the heavy front axle is likely either fixed fifth wheel or big engine. i moved the slider gear back 10 inches to make more room for headache rack . my truck w/o flatbed gear is 17900 lbs with fuel and snow chains. not really that heavy. Lots of people spec HD axles, engine , trans, frame rails, then wonder why the truck is heavy...... go figure....
