Here we go again. After failing road tests at Roehl and Covenant, I will be in Ohio to try USA Trucking's road test. Hopefully I can keep my nerves under wraps as I feel that this is what does me in.

Orientation starts Monday January 3rd and when I pass, I leave with a trainer immediately for 4-6 weeks. The bad thing is that both of my kids have their birthdays in January, so I guess January 1st is going to have to be the daddy party for them.

Boy I really hate to lay it down for you like this but as an otr trucker you are probably going to get to see your kids a handful of times a year! Worst career choice for a family man. Gotta do what you gotta do though right?!

Good luck on your driving test. Relax! Drive that thing like you stole it!

Ya got a thang for that grey dog, dontcha ????

    No extra practice ??

    What're your odds ??

Not trying to be crappy, although I am good at it, what makes you think things will be different.

Covenant has about the easiest road test there is !!!!

Good Luck, hope 3rd time IS the charm !!!

I'm curious, what tripped you up on Roehls road test? Did you go to their school? I'm getting ready to join them and I'd appreciate your feedback.

    Good luck with USA.

No, I did not go to their school. I went to a useless CDL school that trained me mostly on automatics. As a result, I forgot to double clutch. I couldn't get it into gear because the rpms weren't right either. Also, I ran a curb. Interestingly enough, I never run curbs in class. Go figure!

Ahh. Yes, nerves can really get in the way like that. A guy in my CDL school back in 2003 came upon a stale green light on his road test. He decided to go for it, then changed his mind and ended up skidding to a halt in the middle of the intersection.

You didn't use the clutch at all, or just didn't double clutch? I've been driving a 24' flatbed with a split 8 speed for a few years, and I never use the clutch. I'm hoping I can break the habit before I have to test. I shift smooth, but I don't think they'd appreciate it.

How long were the roadtests? 10-15miles, or what?

I have no idea how long the road tests were. I single clutched, so the gears barely shifted.
