Well I'm not saying I don't want landstar because of their 65% rate. Remember, they were my first choice for many reasons. I'm trying to look at the positives here because I got turned down by them and that was worse than a kick in the nuts. Doesn't help with your negativity and put downs on my thread. If you have advise you can say it. After all, that's why I am here, to get information and advise. Now leasing on with my friend has its advantages. I can do anything an independent can, except I'm on his authority. I can book my own loads and do my thing and pay him a small percentage on this. down fall is waiting for brokers to pay. But that's what I saved money for. I'd like to get my own authority but can't get a tractor financed unless you've been running for at least a year under your own authority. I'm sure my buddy will have conditions and may only want me to use certain brokers which is ok by me since he's been doing it for a while he has those connects, and also he's contracted with a shipper that pays real good.

What a kinder, gentler world the schools are feeding to this new generation. Since when did straight talk and honesty become negativity and put-downs?

Listen, I am very knowledgable about this because I have done a lot of research and talked to a lot of successful independent drivers.. Then someone try's to correct me for information I have correctly stated and then he says I'm showing my inexperience lol. Like I said, I'm looking at the bright side of things here, I never said landstar sucks, their pay rates too low, I'd never go their. I want to go their and still do but in life sometimes things don't happen the way you plan so you have to go a different route. Now I have seen what my friend does because I have talked to him a few months ago when I decided I was going to go through with buying my own truck. He told me and SHOWN me what he does and what he makes on loads. So I know what I'm getting into here. I'm still going to apply at landstar because that was my first choice but if that fails, then I'm going to do this as long as the numbers come out to what I need to make it.

How do you know I got my license at a school.. Like I said you judge before you even know me. I went to a driving school only to do a refresher coarse of 10hrs just because that was the only way to get my license. I was already taught how to drive tractor trailer at a construction job I had prior to this because they needed me to get my cdl, but got laid off.. So I decided I still want my license because I did enjoy driving those rigs, so I had to go to a school so I can use their truck and get the classroom time done. I only spent $1500 on my "schooling"

Dan you need to get a thick skin if your coming to this nieghborhood. Ls doesnt pull punches and niether do we. It gets rough around here just read some of the threads. Theres no sugur with this coffee, you asked straight questions and weve given pretty striaght awnsers. Maybe a bit blunt, but straight. I told you get some roadtime in with your buddy and come back in 6months to a year. Like we said theres more to LS than just the 65-75%.

I think I just need some sleep, I am way over tired right now and the only reason I'm not in bed is because I don't have to work until later tomorrow so I just wanted to have some relaxing time. Oh and the fact I'm not in the best mood today because of this for one, and the fact that I live in Connecticut and they just passed some bulls**t laws today that I'm against. Calling your reps doesn't help btw lol.

Another show of inexperience and not having done all your research. Your friend is not allowed to wait until the broker pays, if you are leased to him, running under his Motor Carrier Authority. He is required pay you within 15 days of recieving the required paperwork, from you, by Federal Regulation, whether he has been paid, or not. By not doing this simple thing, he could lose his operating authority, putting himself and you out of business.
You should start by reading parts starting with 396.11 and go from there. Here is the link: http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=376.11

Am I saying you are dumb? NO! You are asking questions, which is good. However, you have not asked enough questions and done enough research to keep from failing early.

    danwantstodrive Thanks this.

Maybe more people, that don't agree with you, called their reps. That is the way it works.
