I wonder what would you do in this situation?
Thanks. If they don't pay detention on Tuesday I am leaving the load in a warehouse and driving away. They won't see it until my full amount including warehouse charge and detention is paid
4 days layover pay

What labor department, this is a contractual obligation and a refused load.
You don't want a regulation to pay a driver, the driver is ... just the driver, the owner is the one who has to deal with this but I assume you are the owner, so my recommendation is to read the contract with each broker, make sure there is detention in it at a rate that covers your regular minimal revenue and have them initial the change and send it back to you before you sign. There is enough freight out there to be had and soooooooooo ... well actually tooooooo many brokers that most do agree to detention at your needs.misterG Thanks this. -

The truth is you are the only on that is getting hurt. Broker, shipper and receiver don’t care about you or your losses. You’ll get lots of promises but don’t expect pay. Once you unload all your bargaining power is gone. If you don’t get paid upfront for the load and layover you will probably just get load pay.
Good luck, but don’t blow off to much time on something you may not get or you’ll lose more. -
How far are you from home? Tuesday is a long time away. I'd drop the trailer somewhere locked and go home. Is your sanity worth the cost of fuel for bobtailing home and back and having 3 days of peace?
Oh, by the way, Labor day is months from now. -

I just realized that the username was different. Have no idea how that happened, I am Andy 9077. Long time ago I lost my password, maybe that is why? I don't know how to change that

I’m currently in almost this exact same situation. I ran out of hours at a shipper on Thursday night who took 6 hours to load. As a result I was unable to make my 9am appointment the next morning, which was a Friday. Brokers’s night dispatcher initially told me the appointment would be pushed back until later Friday afternoon but while in transit to the receiver, the broker sent me a message saying the delivery appointment was changed to three days later, the following Monday night. Now he expects me to sit at the receiver for three days uncompensated.
He’s saying that I can take the load 500 miles back to the shipper if I want, but since he already lost $500 when he booked the load with me, he’s unwilling/unable to pay me layover or detention.
Im not running under my own authority, I’m leased on to a carrier who doesn’t seem interested are able to help resolve this problem. I’m not in a position financially to sit for 3-4 days uncompensated. I know what my rights would be if I was running under my own authority, but I’m not sure in this case since I’m leased on to a carrier. Any thoughts?
