x You folks are bringing up some good points here.

And to answer Ducks' question, YES!, I think 4-wheeler drivers ARE welcome here. And SHOULD be.

But are we considering that the general motoring public gets their attitude about Big trucks from the media? And how does the media portray Big truck drivers?
We're KILLER Big truck drivers according to the media and special interest groups. Just Big crashes looking for a place to happen. Us against them.
    Truckers are bad,........UmKay?

I don't know the percentage of trucks vs. 4 wheelers as far as who is to blame for each accident.
But I can tell you this from reading and posting these type of articles, that 4 wheelers cause a good share of these accidents.

YOU are so right! The media and Special interest groups do not help matters!

Give em a day riding in a truck and they will be causing less accidents. Imo!

Okay... I agree. But how to you go about changing your image? Bullying four-wheelers with the "I'm bigger than you" tactic... or do you improve your image by running someone else down?

    I'm not getting it. :biggrin_25513:

Squirrells... you could be right on. It could be as simple as that -- as part of a driver's ed course at the outset... and perhaps as a "reminder" in conjunction with traffic violations.

I still think that once you get the trucking industry involved in a positive way and out of the "big bully" mindset that some very outspoken truckers carry, that's when you'll see the trucker's image change for the better.

I agree that the majority (over 50%) of accidents involving big trucks ARE caused by four-wheelers... but the number no doubt varies depending on just who is presenting the "statistics".

That would be a tough one to nail down, Gal. <sigh>

Many "holier than thou" posts here. There are good and bad drivers whether they're driving 4 wheels or 18.

Many truck drivers speeding, tailgating, hogging the left lane when the right lane is clear, etc, etc. You've all seen it happen.

I've passed truckers on the right before. But only after waiting a few miles for them to get over and realizing they have no intention of acting like a professional driver.

It doesn't stop at reporting the news, and I use the word "reporting" lightly here. Or the anti-Big truck leaning specials that are arranged so the "reporter" -- again used loosely -- can get to the bottom of the (truth?).
    *cough
    cough *

When Big truck truckin' TV shows like 18 Wheels Of Justice, and Movin' On -- even more so,.... KINDA more like it really is than any of the others were.
Seems most viewers viewed that as boring though. And the programs all get canceled after a season or two. But they all leave impressions on folks too. Different folks see it in different ways.
    And that's a good thing -- I think.

Recently, ICE TRUCKERS Series seems to have caught on -- along with World's Deadliest Catches.
As a Big truck driver, I'm thinking my perspective differs from a non CDL holder. I tended to pay attention to the driver's attitudes as they accomplished their tasks and their equipment.

How did/do the 4-wheelers view the same program? That would be interesting to know. Not that there's a right or a wrong way, ..... just different ways. Did it help them understand -- in general -- the lifestyle called Big truck drivin'? Or more entertaining than educational?

That's why I like to read how the non - Big Truck drivers see our reality.
