My names Mark, Im 32 and i have 4 years verifiable OTR experience. I havent received any citations for anything over the last 3 years. I have been in law enforcement for the last 3 years with the state of Texas, but the reality of it. Although it is fun, the pay truely sucks. So Ive decided to get back into trucking. Im aware that a lot has changed in the last 3 years along with changes that are being made right now.
Now i know its unrealistic to say i want to find a company that has excellent hometime, great pay, great equipment, great staff, a fast truck, higher pay, etc. You know everything we are looking for right out of school? I have a small dog i want to take with me though. So id like to find one that i could take my dog with me, would allow me to use my inverter for aminities and has decent equipment. I really dont want to be a number either. If my dog isnt an option thats covered too.
I can stay out a month at a time if necessary. Id prefer a smaller company.
I have experience with reefer, and van. I also have my Tank endorsement.
I live in Georgia for anyone that wished to know.
Thank you for any information you are willing to share

The only way I believe you're going to find the best is get out there and go face to face. Any other way and you're just a name on a application. You've got what most companies look for so it's only a matter of finding what fits you. You've got marketable skills so go out and market.

I keep hitting deadends. Each decent company i have tried thusfar is saying they cant hire me unless i have 1 year exp in the last 36 months.

You may need to take a refresher course but that's the dues you must pay. However, I would think that your background in law enforcement would be a huge plus. I know it would be with my last company. Maybe you could expand a little a go for a truck security position and just not a driving job. I don't mean a security job but a one that keeps tabs on the product while you drive. I believe you've just got to keep looking. You could download a list of trucking companies in your area and go out and talk with them. Ask them what it will take to be hired when you find a decent company. When you show them you're willing to do whatever it takes then they tend to bend in your favor. Just keep at it and you'll find what you want.

How much does a refresher course usually run and where would i go for that? Maybe the school i received my cdl from?

You may find this thread helpful as far as a good company. I know they allow pets and most people say they are very happy.Being in Georgia could put you in the lane running from P.A to Florida. I don't know about the experience part, but it couldn't hurt to call them.
