melton is messed up.. They have a high safety rating that makes them too proud to cut thier rates, so drivers sit. I cant tell you how many times I sat in truck stops for days with other melton drivers watching maverick, tmc, arrow, and all the other flatbed companies roll in and out. Getting a load is a popularity contest, .they're set up so that your fleet manager has to fight with the other fleetmanagers to get you loaded, and fleet managers dont get paid by how many miles you run, they get paid by the hour, so if you dont impress your fleetmanager you sit. They have an old lady fleetmanager thats related to the company president that chooses her drivers and keeps them running, but if you dont make her board its a crapshoot. You have to be very careful what you say to them as they have no sense of humor and are very thin skinned, but they do take care of thier trucks, lol. As for being a tough job, 5'4" girls that weigh no more than 100lbs would'nt do it if it was that tough and melton has one driving for them. And then there's the talk that flatbedding is dangerous? like alaskan king crab fishing? hardly, its as dangerous as the driver is stoopid, most injuries are because the driver didnt let go of his tarp in a stiff breeze and got thrown off the load. I heard melton drivers talk about how good it was a couple of years ago but those days are gone, you are taking your chances with this company. Would'nt recomend them unless your homeless or single.:biggrin_25513:
