What people are refering to here is the Haz Mat rule.... for a safe haven. It states(in the older book) that one can add extra HOS to reach a safe haven.... Unforseen events take place that prohibit the Haz Mat driver from reaching a safe haven...

However... this clause is NOT in the new HazMat book... nor has it EVER been in the green book.

Problem IS there is so many rules and regs... even the DOT guys here didn't mention this... plus they change.

She definately sounds like a loser. It's an unwritten rule to go in ANY customer with 3/4 tank. I think it was taught in orientation. Anyways, 95% of HML customers require that. Just pure laziness.

Not waking her up? Not all customers have a motel wake up call. If you are told to monitor the CB, you monitor the CB.

Safety use to tell us all time stamps had to be within 1 hour. The auditor would let that slide. That didn't give you permissiojn to extend your 14, but to be creative and collapse a hour off loading or a break. Of course they are trying to stop the magic pen, but that's the way it use to be.

You all don't have to fire that one. She'll dig her own grave and quit.

While you were sleeping last night the rules of the log book changed.
For falling asleep in class give us a 1000 word essay on the use of black ink pens vs blue ink pens on paper logs and have it ready by 1500 hours Monday.

On a paper log, you can log your off duty use of the tractor on Line 1.

Elogs are wired into the truck's ECM and automatically drop you into Line 3 when the truck moves a set distance. Line 3 Driving can not be edited by the driver. Line 5 allows the driver to use the tractor for off duty purposes without causing a log violation. Having elogs in the truck should not penalize a driver who wants to go to Walmart on his off time. That's what this is for.

When the record is saved or printed, Line 5 Off Duty Driving shows on Line 1, the same way you would log it on your paper.

You are very right! Sounds like a billy big rigger that doesn't haul hazmat read this rule and took this in stride thinking if it was ok for a hazmat driver then it was ok for them to.

To the OP, stick with the 11/14 rule. Go over your 11 and get pulled over and you can very much count on being put out of service and a log book violation ticket which you better hope the last (however many days within the last 7) are correct or it could get worse. Just remember a DOT officer can NOT "legally" look back past you previous 7 days or 34 hour restart unless you are involved in an accident for investigation purposes.
