b1rcyu76 is right. I talked with a pepsi driver and they are desperate for drivers. They will pre-hire you as soon as you get yr permit. No exp. needed. He said you get some extra money for every case you deliver.
$45K/yr local and home every night...

A friend of mind got hired at Coca Cola with a B license. They helped him get his A, and he makes in the $45,000 range now. He gets a lot of hours during the summer months, a little less in the winter.

as an out of the box student..??
maybe so, but you will have to work the docks for a bit at a local LTL company, maybe as little as a few months before they even give you the keys to a class B truck to show them you can handle that first.
it is doable, but not as easy as some say, so beware of the all too positives you get here.
my company for instance, specializes in DEDICATED accounts, and they DO NOT HIRE anyone with LESS THAN 5 years experience.....
you may want to do the OTR thing for a minimum of 1 year to get as much 4 seasons driving that you can, then look around for something where you are home daily, or nightly.Big Don Thanks this. -
Pepsi, Coke, US Foods, Sysco. Walk in and apply after you get your CDL from a school. Even if an ad says must have one year experience, a lot them prefer to train you themselves. The last company I was with, for nine years, had a strict two year experience policy. Just found out that last month they dropped that and started taking drivers right out of school. Most of their accounts are local or regional, with regional being gone one or two nights a week.

for as long as i have known Agar...the "CDL Drivers" help wanted sign, has never been taken down....
talk about a revolving door company, in fact, thier door revolved so much, they took it down permanently...so as to allow the mass exodus of worn out drivers. -

Local jobs ARE OUT THERE. There is a lot of good advice in this thread. But it depends on where you are, and what you are willing to do. Obviously, if you live in a rural area, ALL jobs are harder to come by. If you are not set as to where you will be living, then your options are really wide open.
It will take a bit of hard work on your part, and a bit of luck, but you should be able to scope out something suitable somewhere. Just beware of salary vs cost of living where you decide to settle. And there are outfits out there that will be glad to see your driving experience. In fact, that is what is likely to get you in the door at some of these distributors.
Be prepared to work 60+ hours a week.Marksteven Thanks this. -
i got a job like that--40 hrs a week and right now it pays $49,700 a year.
a good job to me but i got blasted by some prime drivers on another thread and i was informed that that is not making good money even with zero road expenses and staying within 40 miles of home on monday thru friday and all the home time i want.
it is possible and good luck in your search.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Try a septic company. Job stinks but the pay doesn't.
