Why do height signs show anything other than actual height!?
Is this to account for snow accumulation?

Snow accumulation is the story I always got and the bridge is measured from its lowest point ...like a drain pipe hanging over a sidewalk .

I have seen a few bridges in the city marked ..ACTUAL HEIGHT...but I've never tested em lol.
The bridges on ny 27 from queens out to sunrise hwy are all marked low but I always cleared em.
