I understand what you are saying, and your advice is appreciated. I do understand that I will be seeing the nation from out of a window.....when I am driving. In fact, most of my focus will be on the road ahead of me and in my mirrors checking behind and around me. In city traffic, I should have all of my focus on driving. Only someone naive would think otherwise. Let me clarify. I don't have nor want at this time a home to be tied down to. Im 58, no kids and divorced, and I don't mind solitude in the least. As for family, I have only a brother and one nephew left. I am a twenty year vet, spent in the air and ground transportation area. I want to experience life on the road. I have been to the dirty truck stops and interviewed drivers. I have unloaded and loaded many trucks. Anyway, I know a bit about the industry already. One thing that makes Swift attractive to me as a starter company is that they are so large, they have terminals in over thirty cities around the US. Therefore, when I request time off after six weeks or longer on the road, I can request one of the areas near a terminal, and should have little trouble being routed. I will rent a car to see the sites in that area. I intend to experience the entire country in this manner, with the little three or four day mini vacations the days off will provide.

Remove NYC; I love the rest of the state, it looks like Tennessee.

Yes, Buffalo and Niagara Falls are beautiful cities. I say New York since it contains the Bronx, Manhattan, Yonkers, NYW, Brooklyn, etc. Took me 10 hours to drive through them.

Most 48 state OTR companies will let you take your time off wherever they can get a load to. I wouldn't let number of terminals be my biggest and possibly only selling point. With Swift pay, your "little vacations" are gonna have to be pretty cheap, lol. If you think Swift is a "good" starter, read around a bit more, cause I haven't gotten that impression yet.

Central NY resident here (more to the state than NYC...), and I love the topography of the state, the Adirondacks and everything else. I just can't stand the local government and the costs on everything. Living in NY means paying higher taxes on crap for NYC and the Indian reservations. I'm looking forward to driving the country to scope out a better area, lol.

One time I had to run Hwy. 20 across the finger lakes area; slow going but loved it, so beautiful.

Another time I had to deliver a huge gear (flatbed), to a ski resort up there somewhere. Didn't want to leave it was so nice and the people were so nice. The gear was for a ski lift.

Yup if if wasn't for the high costs I would probably live there. I bought a hamburger and fries at McDonald's and it costs about $12 dollars there. I lived in Long Island when I was a kid but forgot about most of it. I was happy to go through Long Island againin my truck and the only cars through a part of a city I went through only had new Ferraris, Maseratis, Porches, Mercedes, and BMWs.
