Year ago brokers took only 7% off the top and paid weekly,,now the pimps take 20% and more and want to use money that should be paid with in 7 to 10 days to operate their broker business. federal regulations (look it up) require shippers to pay freight changes with in 7 days,
Worst thing about MOST brokers today is that they get most of their if not all if their freight from other broker (3PL logistic companies)
Most of the brokers I worked with for over 25 years paid with in a week and many paid with in 24hrs with not quick pay fees and their freight was direct from shippers,,I call most broker pimps and many have the same integrity
$5,300 weekly revenue. We send you the rate confirmations. Home every weekend.

being in this business as both owner operator and having my own trucking company I am here to say I don't believe you can promise $5300 a week. if it were last year I would say yeah. dry freight has collapsed and if your running mid west and south east I know for a fact its horrible. there are good loads in south east even $3 a mile freight but its getting there that's the problem try coming from the north where the megas are taking loads at $1.00 to $1.40 a mile just to get down to the south. problem is once you make it down there your back up to a bad area. its obvious you don't know where the hot freight is. usually mid west has the best rates but they have been down all year started to pick up in march and then went back down. its very unpredictable right now I had one driver do $6800 last week what came out to $3200 net after expenses next week got to an area with very freight little netted $1500 some weeks you do good some not so good. so to make promises you cant keep well as an owner you should know what the market is doing.
In his defense though if he is paying the insurance for the drivers and if he is taking quick pay he wont be making any money I agree dispatching is only worth 10% however then there is insurance also 3% if taking quickpay not everyone can float themselves for 30 days and the more truckes leased on the harder it is. so based off 10 percent just with insurance and quickpay hes at 2 % profit and based on $5300 a week he just made $100 for 1 week off 1 truck.
I have worked by myself and let me tell you dispatching sounds easy but there is more to it then dispatching trucks. there's billing invoicing dealing with drivers, brokers, hard to get anything done cause phone is ringing off the hook constantly and having to keep stopping what your doing. me running company with 5 trucks is by itself a full time job. of coarse i have company trucks too. also if your supplying a trailer that's worth more as well.Last edited: May 27, 2015
monstertrucking1 Thanks this. -
I have a question... Why do you keep referring to drivers and hiring when you are looking for owner operators which are leased to your company and would you provide names and numbers to o/os' that you hold present leases with?
-
As far as no knowing where the freight is good, we are based in the south east and the freight is very hot right now. That $5,300 is an average revenue. Right now during produce season its higher than $5,300.

you make the drivers pay insurance? really? and your charging 22% wow you are really screwing drivers at the rate your charging you should really be covering insurance its the least you can do. in fact its the main benefit of leasing if they are paying there own insurance they may as well get there own authority
-
I only charge 5-7% Cant imagine 22% but I feel some people are stuck in situations and just need someone to do all the dispatch work due to many reasons.
