    It's all about expectations.

A couple left over money. Another left because the account was lost, he was pushed out to regional. Others left for diff reasons.

I hired on for home time. Money is nice, and I do okay.

But my rotation allows me the freedom that can only be had with 2 other companies.

    That I am aware of.

Sounds like it. Except for the single part you sound somewhat like me.

Only problem... you like to think. So do I. Not a good thing driving. I thought I'd have time to contemplate life, politics, spirituality, listen/sing to music but ya know what I've found?

It's just distracting. Granted, it might be because I've only been driving a couple of months.

Now, this is where I'm at RIGHT NOW.
I'm looking at having paid $5k for "trucking school" - when really, they barely teach you more than what is needed to get your CDL.

I have issues; A DUI which is almost hitting the 5 yr mark. NOT wanting to go OTR because I have a family and kids. 4 of em.

So that limits me. It limits me to a job where, upon figuring out the hours invested and money received, it comes to oh, about $12.00 an hour. Even when the DUI clears 5 yrs the only way, as I understand it now, to make SERIOUS money (and even THIS route, as I see, is questionable) - is to go OTR and drive your life away. Getting to see your family maybe 4 times a month. Heck, in fact, sometimes I feel like I should have just went back in the Army. But THAT is another story better left to the political section of TTR.

    Which brings me to my point, in regards to this thread and attrition/drop out rate;
At THIS POINT, right now, in time, I just may be one of those figures.
I LOVE driving a big truck. But having a military/security back ground, and guns, etc, I love doing security type work too.

Only problem with that is that it pays squat.
UNLESS... you go ARMED Security. Which, in PA where I'm at, requires ACT235 certification. Which cost's about $600-700.
See my math? $5k (already invested) to make $12hr or $700 to make $16+

I feel for you. Honestly, I don't see why anyone with a spouse and children would even consider a long-haul trucking career, except out of desperation. How can a person call himself married in any meaningful sense when he spends so little time with his spouse? I remember reading about research that seems to indicate that "absence makes the heart grow fonder" is the exact opposite of reality. There's no way I'd even consider doing this if I wasn't a loner. Good luck.

    You're buying into the lie.

Husband and wives have historically spent long periods of separation. Throughout history.

Women were the corner stone of the family, until recent history.

Many excellent husbands and fathers drive OTR.

My kids turned out fine. Quality, not quantity matters. And most of us make every effort to be home on important days.

Just ask my local school board what they think of a pissed off truck driver that shows up at a hearing, with lawyer in tow.

This is also true for husband that were drafted into the military "unwillingly" for centuries. While the wife and kids were home alone.

At least with trucking you can see them once a month vs. once a year or maybe never again!

Yep, sounds like you are right and ready.
Just a test, how fast can you name 5 people you know who are nothing like you..
Those 5 would never cut it.

Yup , there ya go . Get enough people like you with no responsibility willing to just earn enough to pay your cell phone bill and BFI's will keep cutting rates and paying lower wages . Eventually their drivers will barely be able to afford cell phones after putting drivers trying to support families out of work.

There's that old "supply and demand" raising it's ugly head again. Some laws just can't be broken, no matter how hard we (or politicians) try to ignore it.
