There are sooo many factors that affect mpg, you really cannot compare one tank directly to another. In a 500-mile sample, I can be getting anywhere from 5.5 to 9mpg despite driving exactly the same... Over 1400 miles I still see anywhere from 6.5-8.4!
I also strongly doubt that any sanely-specced rig will get better mpg at 68mph vs 62mph over the course of 30,000 miles otr. That not-quite 10% difference in speed has 21% more aerodynamic drag (formula relies on the square of velocity). But people want to think it is better to run their truck faster so they rely on one-tankful tests to tell them what they want to hear.
5.75 mpg yest. 7 mpg today ???????
