If i had a 48 step spread id probably weld on a beavertail and some mega ramps... And a winch reciever.

Dozers, cars, backhoes, enclosed trailers etc could help keep one moving. Probably make fitting an occasional irregular lumber load a bit easier too for stepdeck.

I’ve seen several of that here.

48 footers with extensions on them.

All of them were hauling hay or straw.

We had an old 40 ft "stretch" trailer that must've had bent rails cuz it was impossible to open and close. So we set it at 48 ft and added a deck to the gap. It was still structurally sound but boy did it have a "belly" in it. I got stopped by a cop once cuz he thought I was heavy. I showed him my paperwork and explained that the trailer sagged even when empty. He looked at the registration and saw the trailer was made in 1969...He says, "this thing must've been at Woodstock"
    and he let me go...

The first winter I stayed in Alaska and ran Prudhoe, I got in bad with the sargeant at the scalehouse, my very first load. A few loads later I pulled a stretch flat north, and I tried to close it back up after unloading, but there was no where to get the wheels on anything but ice, so finally just started back with it stretched to around 60 ft. I slept at coldfoot and went in to grab a cup to go when I woke up. I started back and there was the sargeant, 250 miles north of the scale driving his pickup around my truck. I turned around and went back in and ordered breakfast, he came in and did the same. we had a waiting game for a little while, till he got a call, an Ak west truck went off the road on down the trail. lol
I finally backed it up against another trailer, to close it up before I left. lol

Sounds like an expensive way to make equipment ramps.

Have you priced equipment ramps? You can buy a steel 48x96 trailer for what they charge.

I took it to mean that it'll break and become a ramp when loaded.

The co. I work for has put dovetails on several steps and I've seen another step that has a regular deck extension. All built heavy, & used regularly. Never a question or problem that I've ever heard of.
