I loved the power. I could have 44k behind me, and I wouldn't be able to tell, especially going across that flat terrain on 10.
5 months experience. Looking for family owned CO to drive for.

Worse experience of my trucking career was working for a small family carrier. Learned my lesson and never made that mistake again.
Walk Among Us and bryan21384 Thank this. -
That was driving for First Fleet in Portland. Ran lots of West Coast freight.
Hauled lots of candy loads in dry van. Sometimes drop it in the yard in Phoenix where it might sit for a couple of weeks.
I asked about the extreme heat building up in the dry van trailer. I was told that candy was full of chemicals to keep it from melting. That chocolate candy didn't melt either.FullMetalJacket and tscottme Thank this. -

I worked at a small "family owned" company with about a 130 trucks for 11 years when I first started out. It's like Bryan says I got exactly out if it what I put into it. It wasn't top tier pay but I always had money, paid cash for a brand new '07 pickup and a used '03 Kenworth, no debts. It wasn't a cheap company they had excellent equipment always rotating in new stuff and kept it maintained. They were good and respect there was mutual. Had I not bought a truck I'd still be there now 25 years in. No regrets though.

Ah so,
the impetuousness of youth,,,I want it all and want instant gratification, like pushing a button and WHAMMO,,,can't blame them really, we, us old timers , brought this all on, you know. Family run, see, that shows how out of touch people can be today. Family trucking jobs went out with common sense, oh, I'd say, 1998? I've worked for small places, that knew your name and bought you lunch, and I've worked for big, BIG outfits, where you are a number and may never actually meet the boss. Each has it's benefits and problems. Used to be, a small outfit listened to your concerns, you were of a handful of people that made the company run. Not so today, you slack off, someone else picks up the slack, for now, and with soaring costs, got to be a pretty wealthy "family" to run a trucking business. A family outfit in Greeley, Co. comes to mind.
It's totally understandable today, 5 months must seem like enough time for these people, ANOTHER 7 MONTHS? Are you nuts? That's an eternity to them, so, in all honesty, 5 months is probably enough time to look for something else, and companies today have no choice but to give these people a chance, many doing just fine. Now, if only you could convince "Flo" of that,,,bryan21384 Thanks this.
