Ok ordering a brand spanking new 53 or 54 foot reefer. 12 foot spread and yes I will have the spread as far back as possible. This of course becomes overlength in the states that I run. I don't care much until I hit Georgia and florida. Soooo tell me how do you guys like having the fixed spread? and what about getting the permits to be over bridge length? He,lp a fat kid out. Thanks in advance.

Like any other spread--we have 1 54'--no diff than 53'--no added capacity--was speced w/14'spread to somewhat beat--Cali bridge law--BUT--wont go anymore so irrelivant--only state I know anyone bothered was NY--big fine--although I hear about CT and couple of others--but have been thru(NYC-Boston)kate night makin drops and no one pays any attention--as for Fl----Ive never known my home state to pay attention to anything but weight--and VERY blatant safety violations--one word of caution though(and a little more if you do LTL like us)the longer spread can be a little harder on tires--if thats possible--LOL--when your heavy--and get tail off--the fron axle really gets stressed gettin in someplace real tight w/rear dumped--
And I see your form up near the windy--I see(do not know personally)1/2 dozen or so O/O in area w/54 spreads--and they do CHi-East beach LTL--see em at both the new markets--off ashland and Damen--so might wanna ask around
    Good Luck

Thanks I am gonna just order the 53 foot spread with a 12 foot spread. I figured having the 12 foot would help get some of the weight to the back easier. I cross a few axle scales lol. I only run from Florida and back to either Michigan or Chicago. So I don't think I have to much to worry about once I get the stupid permits for florida and Georgia as I know florida is 100 bucks for over bridge. I don't have too many places that I even need to dump the rear axle to get into. I do all LTL going down. The only way to roll. So can anyone tell me why guys get the 12 foot spread instead of the 10 3/4? I have talked to a couple guys and they say they loved having it.

FL's annual permit is $20. No big deal.

It's bright orange so when you pull on the scale, hold it up and you should be fine. Half the time when I pull on the scale with an oversize and hold it up, I just get the green light.
