Like I said it wont matter to me one bit, I won't even bother changing my status i'll just let the machine change on its own. I don't come near using my 70 anyways

Reading all of this makes me glad I get paid the way I do and don’t have to “preserve” drive time and unload on my breaks in order to chase miles to make a decent living.

I understand there are many in your situation and that's fine. Just so long as you understand there are probably more OTR drivers than you realize who run up against their 70 every day, for weeks at a time. Those minutes are valuable and interrupted breaks are extremely costly.

If the 70/8 rule was eliminated, that would help.

The industry and the Feds will be forced to realize the HOS are a huge problem as they stand today. Things must change.

Oh, I gotcha. I'm just saying all trucks that have to deal with RODS have similar time eating issues.

So instead of falsifying your log by claiming you're doing something other than driving when you're actually driving, log line 3 like you're supposed to and drive the #### truck! You're burning through your 70 whether you're on line 4 (checking in, loading, unloading, checking out) or line 3 (driving around the property to get where you need to go)...so what difference does it really make?

All of the elog fans have been complaining about all of the "falsification" that was possible on paper, and they're crying louder than ever about NOT being able to cheat their elogs under the mandate. I have no sympathy. Log it as you do it. If you're driving, log line 3 and drive. If you're doing work other than driving, log line 4. If you're really off duty or in the sleeper, you shouldn't be rolling around the truck stop or bumping a dock. If you're empty, and you're using the CMV for personal errands, then use PC and drive the stupid thing. There is absolutely NO reason to creep along trying not to trigger a switch to the drive line.

You've obviously not worked in the truckload OTR reefer world so I'll forgive your misguided rant. Once I'm paid hourly for all driving and On Duty time, and not expected to maintain 95%+ log utilization to meet pickup and delivery appointments, I'll agree with you.

I would have no problem with this if the darn thing would kick me off the drive line as soon as I turn off the engine - not 5 minutes later.

So manually update your status as soon as you park...you don't HAVE to let it do that for you. The problem I've had is that I'll be waiting for a freight train to pass...and when it finally clears and I start moving again the stupid thing says "you don't have anyone logged in as driving...would you like to update your status?" I never should have been pulled OFF line 3...the stupid thing is falsifying my log!

Granted, I'm still on paper...for now...8/30 exempt...but been playing with it a little just in case I hit day 9 I'll know how the stupid thing works.

§392.6 & §395.3 haven't changed. The only thing that HAS changed is the ability for those who have been advocating in favor of elogs to be able to continue to falsify their own logs.
