In summary this guy claims the 5th at scale and refuses to help officers inspect his truck. He explains his concept well, gives officers all the paperwork, even permission to the officer to do it himself... but will not assist them.
He claims they let him go, but didn't post video of that.

I totally get the 5th amendment thing but i wouldn't play that games, to me it doesn't worth the potential aggravations that could come with that.
Dominick253, Lonesome, Toomanybikes and 2 others Thank this. -
I would say if your not well versed in law don't try it but, this driver knew what he was talking about, and he was correct.
Dominick253 and TheDude1969 Thank this. -
I missed where the judge asked him to testify
Hammer166, TheDude1969 and STexan Thank this. -
He should have been put oos until someone qualified to operate his truck could be located. And then the driver billed for the expense. Operating a commercial vehicle is a privilege, not a right.
Hammer166, Diesel997, Dominick253 and 10 others Thank this. -
Or maybe the guys that are trusted to inspect an 18-wheeler should at least be able to operate an 18-wheeler.

There's at least one of this type of stupid in every crowd.
How is turning on lights incriminating ones self? Unless he was knowingly operating a vehicle with known defects. In that case he gets a pass on one part of his stupidity and gets jammed up on another part of his stupidity.
SMHHammer166, TheDude1969 and Ougigoug Thank this. -
Probably has to do with insurance regulations.TheDude1969 and Hick Thank this. -
But, it doesn't mean you give up your rights.TheDude1969 and Blackshack46 Thank this. -
Using his mentality, one does not need to provide one's logbooks as they might incriminate oneself. Yet the regulations state you must submit your license, medical card, reports of hours of service for today and the last seven days, truck/trailer registration, and Bills of Lading if loaded.
So, by his thinking, the regulation violates his 5th amendment rights.Dominick253, roadreject and TheDude1969 Thank this.
