It seems like all of I-40 through New Mexico either has a big wreck or a huge backup in a construction zone or both. I was in ABQ this morning headed to Calexico deciding whether to take I-40 to I-17 or I-25/NM-26/I-10. It's 50 miles farther but you don't have to deal with I-40 or the idiots flying down the hill from Flagstaff going home to Phoenix on a Sunday. To me it's worth the extra miles to not have to deal with it. Plus, I don't think you save that much time anyways.

It's The NMDOT designed and approved Death Zone.

Sometimes I take US54 and cut across, go through White Sands and across 10.

Mostly I sacrifice my body, and get up at midnight or so and drive it off peak.

I drove 40 westbound through NM overnight yesterday - no issues.
