I tried using the Polamar SL41 on a Bearcat 980 and all it did was squeal even with talkback at level 0, maybe the battery needs to be changed.

If a radio is turned up they do squeal when power mic is added..Dont know the tech reason why but they usually do..The sl41 is not a power mic but is a powered mic but its possible the reason why she squeals.

Dont know why people add a power mic not a powered mic to a turned up radio if this is the case..

980 is stock, never been opened, SL41 is a noise canceling mic so one would assume it wouldnt squeal, even with talkback on, I know there is a modulation adjustment inside mic, I just havnt had a reason to mess with it, maybe now I do.

IIRC I had squeal with my SL41 and the internal adjustment did not remedy it, but turning talkback way down fixed me right up. I think I was using my Stryker 655 at the time but it may have been my Northpoint. Its been 2-3 years ago so memory fades

Set mic gain on level 3 ( max is 4) on 980 and the SL 41 works fine, no squeal or feedback, good on air reports, even had a driver patient enough to listen to both stock mic and SL41 for comparison, and he said SL 41 sounded much better, both mics are crystal clear, but SL 41 had more punch and modulation.

DNC520 - 6 Pin Electret Mic For JOHNNY III, JOHNSON II, LINCOLNII+, And MCKINLEY

    26 bucks.
That works for your tune. If his tune is different, it won't work quite the same and his adjustment may be different. If the SL41 has been tampered with internally, it will be different also.
