I understand the go along to get along with dot. I used to be like that. I am no longer like that. I know my job, and if they choose to come at me with an attitude of superiority we are not just going to eat a #### sandwich. Don’t care if he has a badge and a gun or not. If I’m wrong so be it I’ll change things. But if they are wrong we will prove that. Maybe they won’t hassle the next guy.
65k, 4 chains, good to go

This pretty well hits the nail on the head, there’s a particular county scale guy I’ve been educating for a long time. I’ve beat him several times and he stops doing those particular things to other people.

I don't like throwing extra rigging but it takes less time to throw it than to try to explain to some over-zealous DOT person why I didn't.
And it for sure takes less time to throw the rigging than it does to write out a check for a fine.Nightcrawler99, cke, wore out and 3 others Thank this. -
It’s nothing personal w900a. You do however you are happy. I grow weary of the guys who act like if it’s not overdone it’s not right. I’m not saying you are one, and I don’t think anyone here was attacking you.

Ehh I don’t know about that. I could agree with that if I got inspected with every load. I make 20 to 30 moves a week sometimes more. I can argue with a DOT cop for two hours and still be time ahead by not throwing 5 extra unnecessary chains just for looks. I only have to write a check if they win in court which they can’t if the ticket isn’t based on the law.

I'm not the least bit offended by anything 4020, I just am getting more onry and miserable as I age, sick of it all and not interested in trying to be in some cliche that I have to agree on everything that goes on that's all. I have my ways I do things, others have theirs. My feelings were gone years ago...
You are wrong. I just said in the last post that my "buddy" which is a Vt DMV officer stated directly to my face last time he and I met up for an inspection as I kiddingly was showing off my brand new FMCSA decal to him, he said it didn't matter if I had one or not, and that VT doesn't honor them in the state. If I missed something you said, I'm sorry. I'm stating what the guy said to me that's all. And I have to live with them, you don't. Obviously one you cross into Mass., NH or NY, this goes out the window.wore out Thanks this. -
LOL...yeah but you like to argue and I don't. Plus the fact that we haul mostly in California and arguing with the CHP is a waste of time. Most of the creeper cops and scale people know our trucks and we really don't get hassled much.
We've argued in court a couple of times and made out pretty good but arguing with the road cops is like arguing with a stump. -
It’s not about having to agree to be in a click it’s about defending your claims you make. If you’re right I’ll admit it regardless of what my buddies think.
I’m not saying you don’t have to have a VT sticker I’m saying it doesn’t affect us. -
But then you have the law of diminishing returns to deal with as well. Suppose you land in front of a judge with an obvious anti-truck bias. I’ve been in front of one of those myself, and any explanation or facts contrary to “her honor’s” opinion were not permitted. Sure, there’s always the appellate level, but how much money and time was lost by then disputing a citation that included a fine of perhaps $500 or less?
Just a thought...W900AOwner Thanks this. -
This is the most sensible post I've read on this topic to this moment, and my sentiments exactly. It's not about pleasing some yahoo with a badge, it's all about saving time explaining yourself, and money and time defending yourself in court over stupid issues. That's my main motive when I go to work on a daily basis...I ain't got the time or patience to convince or change some overly-zealous pinhead with a handbook on why I do things a certain way.
Thanks REO6205; you made my point here better than I did, and without any additional interrogation, lol.
