This is true and where I get annoyed. I go to an equipment dealer and some dude puts 12 1/2” chains on a 30,000 pound excavator then wants to chastise you about only having 8 on an 80,000 rig. You do your job I’ll do mine. The thing is our jobs are very different.

Or you have to wait while he puts on his 12 chains because he won’t get out of the dam way

Your posts are long and my time this morning is short so I’ll paraphrase instead of quote, your chain rubbing being a law, 6 chains on anything that articulates, oversecuring because it makes YOU feel better these are all things that are personal but not required by the rest of us.

You seem like a decent guy the more you post, so you kinda have to understand that we have guys come through on occasion that try to “educate” that have no idea what they’re talking about so until we get to know you we can be defensive.

You heavy haulers could probably run circles around this old man, but after flatbedding for 35 years, I got pretty good at spotting a load that might need some "oversecurement"
I'd rather take the time to throw some extra chains or straps in the yard than to be on the shoulder somewhere fixing something that's shifted...

That’s an interesting observation, I can usually secure a load where it stays put without going overboard. I’ve seen guys with twice as much securement as they need and still moves.

Multiple pieces of structural steel is a lot different than a machine. I’ve had some steel loads move no matter what you do

Somebody really needs to come up with a way to do structural steel that's not like trying to tie a dozen greased pigs together with a foot of rope. Just trying one down made me nervous.

I decided to walk away because I got tired of trying to "fix stupid". The one pic shows a tube trying to walk out the back of the load. Now I'm doing precast part time, where oversecurement is kind of a no-no... IMG_1167.JPG IMG_1173.JPG IMG_1281.JPG
